FINISHING OF THE CAKE....03/23/15

--So ok how do you follow a warming trend. Why with a couple of days of cold damp rainy. Then a little snowy frosty morn as icing on the cake.
--Needless to say I wasn't surprised when I heard the snow plow this morning. I’ll say this for winter it's persistent.
--I really wouldn't be surprised to get hit with one more big blast of snow before it gives up for the season. But like everything else in life it'll have to concede sooner or later. Then spring will be here.
--If anything it makes life interesting.....

LONG SLOW DAYS .....09/24/16

--Sometimes after a great run of really good days a batch of long slow days come around the bend and take hold of the days routine. Driving a tad wacky of course as you desperately try to regain your lost momentum.
--When I'm not distracted I usually realize I should just go with the flow and enjoy the change of pace. Instead of driving myself crazy trying to keep up a pace that my body doesn't want to handle.
--But having been blessed with the curse of more bucket than brains, I usually end up driving myself whack a doodle crazy fighting the whole dang fool process.
--Which is just plain foolish, and something I've been trying to work on for years. But haven't even come close to getting a handle on......

PICTURE'S IN THE SKY....04/05/15

--It's amazing but not really I guess. There's nothing like a hot summer's day to just lie back and watch the clouds trying to make picture's from what you see.
--When my children were little it was one of the games we used to play when we ran out of thing's to do. on a hot summer's day.
--I suppose there would be some who would say what a waste of time. but hey it was harmless and we had fun so what.
--Today I’m sure there's a science involved in the whole process. And probably a few terms to go along with it. But it really can't explain some of the picture's we saw or continue to see, it's one of the funny thing's about the magic of the moment I guess....

PORCH RAILING BLUES....04/03/15

--It seemed like a good idea at the time. Replace the porch railing so it wouldn't be so hard to get up and down the stairs. Of course like everything else it usually finds a way of coming back at you with a twist.
--Apparently the dang fool cats who hang out outside figured the railing was for meeting and greeting people on their way up and down the stairs.
--Which would probably be ok except for the fact that lately when I’m going or coming it takes me a extra five min to pet all the fools before they'll let me pass.
--Even though I keep telling them it wasn't the reason I put the dang fool railing up, they still haven’t figured it out yet. And of course I’m still being held hostage before they’ll let me pass. But I suppose it could be worse. At lest the railing being used for something….

RESISTING THE URGE....07/06/15

--This that and the other thing and usually standing by waiting patiently for days games to begin. But like everyday when that first moment before wakefulness arrives there are choices to be made and decisions to make.
--Oh it's the same old tired game of why won't you play. Sometimes it’s easy and sometimes it's hard. Especially after a night of rolling around trying to find that place where sleep can be found.
--But like everything else the decision is our. Good day or bad day. it’s not really a question but a frame of mind I’m finding as the years begin to take there toll.
--My wife usually looks at me as I hobble out of bed to face the day. With a half formed smile biting back curse's and humming a tune of my own making. Because as far as I’m concerned I’ll have a good day one way or another.
--That's not to say there are not a few bad moment, but like everything else it's all in how you look at it.
--The biggest problem is usually resisting the urge to just say the heck with it. And give in to the feeling of frustration of it all......

THE WONDERS OF A GOOD STEW..07/14/16

--Trying to get people to eat vegetables is tricky. They each seem to have their favorite . and it's usually limited to two.
--But throw it in a pot and you can go for broke . Which I might add we do of course.
--The little darlings just go crazy for a good stew .Myself I think it's just great because quite frankly I like a few more vegetable than just corn and green beans......

THERE'S A LOT TO BE SAID.....10/17/16

--Usually when it comes to dinner it's a time consuming thing that drives me whack a doodle crazy with all the dang fool back and forth foolishness about what in Sam Hill everyone wants.
--Of course there are a few things that nobody complains about, and we always try to get a few of those things so once a week dinner can be a simple thing that doesn't require a aspirin and allot of deep breathing.
--There's a lot to be said for those no hassle nights, just having them around the corner helps me get through the week sometimes. And sometimes it's the little thing that help the most.....

THINGS ARE LOOKING BETTER…05/16/15

--After I had my coffee I went back to bed because quite frankly after spending most of the night tossing and turning I was tired and the coffee I’d drank wasn‘t helping.
--When I woke up I was surprised to find that every curtain in the house had been opened by my sunlight loving whack a doodle wife. Who apparently was trying to see if I was going to bust into flames, or just stumble around blind until I tripped over a piece of furniture she'd managed to rearrange while I’d been sleeping.
--I finally was able to crack one eyelid open enough to see if I was in damnation. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the sun was shinning so things are looking better….

THE SAME THING EVERYDAY WITH A TWIST....01/26/16

--When it comes down to brass tack and nails, you’ll find me at the front of the line complaining about the same old same old.
--But like an old fool I also recognize the usefulness of the dang fool routine. And the necessity of sticking with it especially in a tiny house filled with whack a doodle's.
--So usually my morning's are filled with mumble's of round the mulberry bush as I go around and take care of all those tiny thing's, that left unattended will come back and bite me in the butt.
--That's not to say from time to time I won't give it a little shake-up. But usually I just run through and take care of them so I can get the dang fool day started.
--Along the way of course I often myself catching a few of the many blessing that are often overlooked on those days when the morning routine is skipped. Which provides for quite the early morning mental recharge. Which is usually enough to get me through those one step at time days....

THE MYSTERY KITTEN....11/01/16

--Coming home from being out and about the other day my wife stopped short when she saw a kitten we've never seen before.
--Amazingly the little fella seemed to fit right in with all the other whack a doodles who hang around the house.
--Sort of makes you wonder if the cats have signs like the hobos did pointing out the places where the people were a soft touch for a furry face.
--Either way more wife and children spent the rest of the day contemplating just where the Sam Hill the little fella came from.
--I guess it's the little things that make a  day, you just never know when a blessing will pop up.....

THE NEVER ENDING CYCLE.....10/07/16

--It seem no matter how much and how long you clean things just don't stay clean for more than a day or two at the most.
--Then of course it's right back at it again. Because heaven forbid you miss a day or two, the snow ball effect kicks in and then your really in a pickle.
--Over the years I've tried every which way to keep a handle on things, and almost driven my self wacky in the process.
--Now I pretty much take it one mess at a time and hope for a clear path to the next disaster before the sun sets. It's probably not the best plan but it seems to work, as long as you remember to keep your eyes open for dust bunnies on the prowl....

THE MEMORY SPOOL.....07/18/16

--Like a giant ball of wrapped up twine, it’ll sometimes unwrap and go off for a stroll on it's own. leaving you chasing the dang fool ball before it totally unwinds.
--I suppose it could be said that chasing the dang fool thing every once in awhile is  a good thing. Sort of keeps the old Bain pan clear of the little dust bunnies that collect for time to time.
--My self I think the whole thing is a giant pain in the neck. but unfortunately that's the way it is I guess.
--I suppose it could be worse the dang fool ball could totally unwind . But for some reason I have a feeling it's never ending.....

RETRACING YOUR STEPS....10/23/15

--I love the days where you find yourself retracing your steps to try and figure out just where in Sam hill you made the wrong one.
--it gives you plenty of opportunity to rethink and even though it can be a pain in the neck. Sometimes you do find the misstep. and you just have to chalk it up to circumstance.
--Usually though it was you. And circumstance is nothing more than the gremlin of pride just trying to cover it up.
--It's a big giant puzzle box this thing called life. We do the best we can, but being that were all cursed with the same affliction of being human we make missteps. The trick is learning from the dang fool thing's so they don't become a habit.
--Of course finding ways to pass this on to your children is a bit of a mind bender at times. Especially as they get older. And are busy with their own up's and down.
--But I will say one thing no matter how old we get we all need words of encouragement from time to time. More than we need more gloom and doom. Life's hard enough  a smile and a hug go a long way towards smoothing over some of the bumps....

OLD SONGS, AND OLD MOVIES....01/25/16

--From time to time it's nice to revisit some of the old thing's in our life. Like old friends they remind of day’s gone by, and blessing long forgotten.
--While I’m not much for the old song's, my wife has her favorites and from time to time while out and about she'll pop a CD or two in. I usually hum along because the are kind of catchy, and she really does enjoy the whole thing.
--When it comes to old movie's my wife, usually will laugh along because we pretty much find the same thing's funny.
--Of course the children just shake their heads as the amble by because they know it's going to be a long night.....

RUMBLES IN THE NIGHT....11/13/15

--As a rule I try not to make to much out of rumbles in the night. A stray whisper or misstep can be taken so many ways its like a red flag for a over active imagination.
--My wife and children are under the impression that every rumble is nothing less then the prelim to a zombie invasion. Sometimes its like a Marx brothers movie around out house at night. What with all creeks and groans and whispers flying about.
--When the children were younger and established bedtimes were the norm it was a lot more manageable. Now it seems staying up till all hours is more the flavor of the day.
--But being young only comes around once so we try not to be to critical of the little darlings. Besides mother nature has a way of smoothing out the edges of rebellion over the course of time. And I’ve found her to be quite a motivator when a parents words fall on deaf ears.
--Of course its not the best plan but, neither is chasing that dang fool monkey around the mulberry bush. And to my way of thinking that game was played long enough when the little darling were younger.
--Of course my wife just gives me one of her looks when I whisper the first few verses of round the mulberry bush. Because she knows how much I really hate that dang fool game.
--In the end with a wee bit of patience things return to a some what balanced playing field. And we don’t get stuck chasing any monkeys which is a two for in my book.....

THE WING NUT BOOGIE….02/09/17

--Some cats are happy with what ever attention they can get good or bad. Usually with a little patience you can put them on the right track, and make sure the strive for positive attention.
--Of course there's always those wing nuts who what everything they can get. And don't seem to be happy unless you are  really going whack a doodle crazy trying to get them to be good.
--In some way's I've found cats to be a lot like some people I've met, which is strange but sadly true. Sort of makes you wonder.....

THE BEST TEACHERS I’VE KNOWN….02/04/15

--The conversations I’ve had with my children other years have been quite the delight. I’m happy to say.
And for everything I’ve tried  to teach them, there have been twice as many things  that they and my wife of course have taught me. And I’m not ashamed to admit it. In fact if push came to shove I’d say that my wife and children have been some of the best teachers I’ve known.
--Being married with children has been nothing but one extended learning experience after another.
--Oh there have been highs and lows over the years. But mostly it seems because of the preconceived shackles of just what it takes to be a man in the today world and where your place and role should be in the natural order of things. When in doubt don’t upset the norm, seems to be the male manifesto.
--For me taking 4 children to the store to pick up something was just a everyday thing as far as I was concerned. Yes one was in a baby carrier strapped to my chest, another was riding in car seat fixed shopping cart and the other 2 were walking along side so I guess we might of made quite the parade at the time.
--From the looks I got from some of the people we met you’d of thought we were dancing  and singing about the joys of life on the other side.
--Needles to say it’s been and continues to be some of the best moments of my life. Being Married with Children…

THE ZIGZAG EFFECT...05/17/15

--It drives me nuts when trying to feed the dimblub cats outside. They run back and forth in front of me. I mean I know their excited getting food. But running back and forth in front of a limping old fool who has the balance of a stretched out sox. Not a good idea!
--The older cats wait patiently on the railing. I guess there's something to be said for old age.
--The young ones continue with their shenanigans. And will probably continue until they reach the point where they realize for all there effort sometimes it’s just easier to hang back and wait.
--I do try and be patient with the little fools....

THE ROLLER COASTER OF DISCONTENT....04/16/15

--Warming trends are nice except when there followed by a return to the big chill.
--What started out as a pleasant high, ended as a bone rattling chill.
--Luckily being the we'll wait and see guy I never put my cold weather clothes away. So it was just a matter of shutting the dang fan off and turning the heater on while I redressed in my cold weather clothes.
--Of course the forecast calls for it to get a tad warmer today. I guess we'll just wait and see....

THE UN-PROMISED ROSE GARDEN....05/.27/15

--So often I hear why are things so hard. And my response is why shouldn't they be. Maybe it's just me but I don't ever remember being promised a rose garden anywhere along the way.
--In fact most times it seems as if the universe goes out of it's way to dump a few extra pounds of dirt in my path to stumble over.
--Of course when I was quite younger I would wail the woe's of me. And how the universe was out to get me. As I got older I finally realized that yes sometimes bad things happen to good people. How we deal with it and come to terms with that fact is what makes it bearable.
--The rose garden everyone worries about never achieving must be first tilled in the follow fields of our mind. I guess it's all in how you look at it....

THE OLD MAPLE'S SHADE....09/14/16

--On a hot day it pays to know where the shade is, and how far you are away from it.
--This past summer made me realize a few things. One we don't have near enough shade. And two it's a awful long walk to what we do have.
--Of course what shade there is is usually cluttered with cats lying about with that dang fool Waffles going back and forth keeping a eye on every one. Why he feels he has to keep a eye on every one I have no idea, but he does. Which depending on who he pesters, usually ends up with him getting swatted.
--I also figured out that stumbling around in long grass is a pain in the neck especially using a dang fool cane. But when you have a riding mower with a winning personality the grass does have a tendency to get a little long.
--Out of all the shade around the house of Whack a doodle I really like the old maple, it's big and most important of all it close. Even though at times I have to stumble around a bunch of Whack a doodles I really don't mind sharing I guess....

THE MIDNIGHT RUN....06/28/15

--I've long ago accepted that my wife's cat's are a special breed. Where in Sam hill they come from I have no idea. But she usually ends up with some of the most personality infested little fellas you every did see.
--Last night I noticed my wife getting out of bed and making a mad dash to the bathroom. After carrying and having six children her poor bladder has a mind of it's own. So it wasn't really an uncommon sight.
--The crazy cat of hers Dinky running like crazy to catch up to her. Being a curious person by nature I just had to investigate.
--After a couple of minutes my wife came out of the bathroom again running for her bed with the dang fool running right behind her swatting at her legs. When she reached the bed he jumped up and started loving her up.
--I looked at my wife and asked what in Sam hill was going on? she explained to me it was a stupid game Dinky played every night when she went to the bathroom. I just shook my head and smiled. Right then I began to wonder if maybe I was the whack a doodle and they were the sane ones. Not knowing the answer I went back to bed....

THE MORNING RIDE....06/18/15

--I have never been able to figure out just why it is when it comes to ride's the morning ones seem better. Maybe it's because the day looks fresher. Or maybe it's your outlook on thing's either way I like morning ride's the best.
--The squirrels seem perkier. And have a bit of a attitude in the morning. But then again we are talking about squirrels as a whole they kind of live up to their names.
--While driving into town we must of slowed down for at lest a half a dozen. unfortunately this proved to be to much for the little fellas because at lest half of them ran back to where they started. My wife laughed and said maybe it's not getting across the road but the contest to see if they'll make it that their after either way all I know it's it got kind of tiring having my innards shock up every time we had to stop. But I guess was it better than running the poor idgets over. Even idgets deserve a chance....

SHAKING THE BOAT.....07/26/16

--Every once in awhile it's good to shake things up a bit. I guess it keeps us from getting complacent and forgetting the big picture. At lest that’s probably the thought process behind the whole shaking the boat ploy.
--I know I have a tendency to forget the big picture from time, so a good placed storm has a cleansing effect. and of course straighten things out a bit afterwards.
--Like everything with a bit of patience things usually get back on track. Of course having a few life preservers  helps too......

PLANTING IN THE DARK..... 04/27/15

--Oh please will you tell me the goal behind all of this?
--Why work so hard at something that no one seems to see.
--Why bother at all if it's just going to just sit out there.
--Perhaps that’s the answer, seeds don't grow when planted in the dark....

GREEN APPLE MIX UP....07/15/16

--The old apple tree next to the driveway is a real treat. Every year it gives a large supply of apples. Unfortunately for every on we pick about five or six of the little fellows fall off the dang fool tree . It wouldn't be so bad but it's kind of a pain in the neck trying to walk without slipping on all the apples.
--Then of course there's all the bees the dang fool fallen apples attract .
--It could be worse I suppose. and the cats do love batting the fallen apples  around . I just wish they 'd bat them  where I didn't have to walk.....

BREAKFAST FOR DINNER.... 07/29/16

-Every once in awhile we like to have breakfast for dinner. Pancakes, Eggs, Bacon and French toast of course.
--It makes for a little breakup from the same old same old. Which is kind of nice because sometimes the same old same can sure as Sam Hill take the spice out of life.
--And of course any excuse to have bacon is a two for in  my book . About the only thing that could make it better is if you threw brownies and blue berries into the mix . Which every once in awhile my wife does bless Her little heart....

This thing called life…01/03/15

--The peak has arrived and were over the crest. It’s all downhill from here. Or so I’ve been told.
--Each day a new step, and each step another day closer.
--Until we reach the mid point and start the whole thing over.
--When we start that upward climb to a shinny new year.
--Oh what a adventure this thing called life…

THE WORST KEPT SECRET....07/09/15

--Walking into a room you can usually tell when the furry little fools have been up to something. Or maybe it's just my over active imagination. Either way I can usually tell.
--Not trying to be to obvious I check at the usual spots for signs and then try to make my best guess. Of course waffles is a dead give away with certain things.
--If he's sitting pretty staring lovely at my wife. It usually means she took him when he had to go.
--The dang fool dog loves my wife. And will spend the morning hours straining for the sounds of her first steps. And when he hears them announce to the world that she has awaken.
--Of course my wife tries to down play the whole thing but I’ve caught her running over with open arms to pet the furry little fool.....

THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB....04/26/15

--Finding the right tool for the job is important. Especially if you don't want smashed knuckles and such.
--Over the years I’ve been victim to my own stupidly for using the wrong dang tool many times. And have tried to learn from this. Sometimes when whack a doodle problems pop up I’ve had to make do with what I’ve had on hand to fix things.
--Sometimes this works sometimes it's just a temporary fix until the right stuff can be acquired….

THE ORANGE BREASTED CHATTERBOX....08/01/16

--Of all the buddies morning flinch has brought along the orange breasted chatter box is a delight.
--No matter where I sit in the dang fool yard the little darling always seems to find me. and carry on a running commentary about his day.
--My wife of course just nods her head as she listens about my tales of the little pest. I’m pretty sure she's humoring me but I guess it's to be expected after all these years.....

SLEEPING ALL DAY....05/02/15

--Apparently when your a cat sleeping several times all day is what you do. In the course of the day you follow the sun around the house. And then take a nap where ever you find it.
--It wouldn't be so bad of course if the dang fool cat would sleep all night. You know like when I’m trying to sleep. But no he of course likes to sleep most of the day so he can sing the song of spring all night.
--Once in awhile he'll catch a mouse, and bring it over to show me. Which would be ok if I wasn't trying to sleep. But hey at least he caught the dang fool mouse. Of course if he'd killed it first would be nice.
-- But I guess staying up all night long isn't so bad as long as you have a good reason….

PORCH SURFING .....08/27/16

---When the dang fool porch gets wet it's slippery. Before during and after it rains it's a mantra I keep repeating to myself so I won't forget.
--Not that it does any good of course, because I usually end up sliding around like a fool at lest once.
--This morning it was poor Waffles who ran out to do his business and slid of the end of the porch into that dang fool picker bush next to the porch.
--He probably won't have been so mad if Squash hadn't there batting at him while he was trying to get out of the picker bush.
--Of course Waffles forgot the porch was slippery, so when he tried to chase Squash across it he slid of the other side next to the play set.
--When he finally got back to the house he was walking like I usually look when crossing the dang fool thing. Using baby steps all the way.
--I guess it goes to show you can teach a old dog a few things after all.....

LITTLE HELPERS.....08/24/16

--Working outside can be a bit of a pain ,what with all the little helpers running about.
--It really wouldn't be so bad I guess if they tried to restrain themselves a bit. But I guess that's what you can expect with cats and a whack a doodle dog running about.
--When comes to trying to get things accomplished it gets to be time consuming. But I suppose it could be worse, at least the little fools are trying in there own whack a doodle Way......

ALMOST THERE….03/27/15

--It takes time to change course, turning on a dime is a dream achieved by the young and flexible. Such are the draw backs of getting older I’m finding out.
--Change is possible but apparently in a house loaded with cats kittens dogs and children int must be introduced gradually. Other wise you end up with a total whack a doodle mishmash.
--Preparing for spring apparently is one of those things. Already the balance has become worn around the edges. As a result the whack a doodle ness is starting to peek through.
--But like everything else I image they’ll get the idea sooner or later. It does make life a adventure as of late….

LOOKING FOR ANOTHER CAUSE ….03/01/15

--The heart wants what the heart wants, or so I’ve been told. In fact I’m getting a little tired of it but that’s only because like me it getting quite old.
--It's already been established and I’m told everyone is quite happy maybe now it's time to move on, and stop pounding it to taffy.
--I’m not saying we should forget, but I’m sure there's more to be done bedside’s being hit with the same old stick.
--Perhaps we could take a look around and see if there is anything else that could be taken up and waved about. I’m sure if we looked it would be possible , because if there’s one thing for sure. There’s a lot of people who need help in this big old world of ours…

REMEMBERING TO GIVE A LITTLE PERSONAL SPACE....03/06/15

--Like the giant maple that stands in the front yard. it stands to remind us of all that it has to offer.
--Shade on a hot summer day, relief from a down pour of rain or branch to grab on a slippery winter's day.
--Never once asking much more than what it offer's. It stands for all to enjoy.
--But like all thing's it must be remembered for what it is, and although nice to visit you can't hang out there all day long. Because even a tree enjoys time alone with the sun shine of the day....

Magic Moments….05/09/15

--Most times you never realize or see them coming. But happen they do. And afterwards you sigh and say wow if your lucky enough to be still standing.
--You’d think after all these years I wouldn’t be surprised when one of those magic moments comes along. But being the old fool that I am I was. What can I say I guess I’ve been jaded by the constant oppression of just living life from day to day?
--But once again when the old magic moment came along all I could say was wow.
--Oh and of course there was a lot of thanking god involved…..

It's the dawning of a new day 01/01/17

THE LEAVES ARE STARTING TO CHANGE....10/07/16

--Watching a sunrise is right up there with watching the leaves change with the coming change of the season.
--It seems over the years I've come to appreciate some of the things I often ignored when I was younger.
--I guess that's probably always the case you don't start looking around until the time comes when your forced to slow down and take a look at a few things.
--One of the things I do rather enjoy is all the colors of the leaves, and how they go about their changes.
--Of course Waffles isn't to impressed when I drag him out for a walk, I guess he rather sit in the kitchen at my wife's feet. Squash and the wing nuts will follow of course but for some reason I just don't think it's for the exercise ......

Good old baking weekends 12/21/16

THE OLD CROW....07/11/16

--Usually I see him sitting on the phone wire that runs in front of the house . Big black and chattering away .
--Ii wouldn't be worth mentioning but the dang fool has been hanging around for years.
--my wife just shacks her head when I start about the old fool. She says it's probably not even the same crow and she might be right she usually is.
--But that doesn’t explain why the dang fool follows me around just a chattering away….

The Never Ending List....11/26/17

--From time to time you can count yourself lucky if you happen across those people who are the keeper of the list.
--Oh, you know the list it's the one that has every mistake you've ever made and each and every one of your misdeeds.
--And the best part is the keeper of the list is more than willing to recite it's content at a moments notice. Especially if you're on a downward slide looking at a muck and mire convention held in your honor.
--I'll say one thing for the little darlings they are consistent and never disappoint when the chips are down bless their little list quoting hearts.....

THE GARDEN THAT DIDN'T GROW....04/05/15

--The ground was prepared the seeds were planted. The rest was up to mother nature. After waiting for the sprouts, way past the time. It was realized that perhaps a fence should have been put up to protect the seeds while mother nature worked her magic.
--Forgotten you see was the little dog named Sammy who spent all his time digging up what was planted. A rather strange little fellow who liked to visit, when no one was outside to see. Part of a new generation of me me's who truly believe what ever they see belongs to them and not you .
--Tried to explain to the neighbor who's dog Sammy was what had transpired. And his reply was it was impossible because Sammy would never do such a thing because he knows his boundaries you see. Well I thanked him for his time. Went back home and saying you live and you learn.
--The lessons learned were many of course. When putting seeds in the ground put up a fence to protect them. When talking to me me's don't bother you get more results talking to a tree....

EVERYTHING AND EVERY TIME....11/26/17

--Trying to remember everything you might need to get the job done should be easy. Especially if you have done the job before.
--But unfortunately in the house of whack a doodle nothing is ever the same twice. There's always that one whack a doodle thing that pops up and makes the job go in a entire different direction.
--Over the years I've come to the conclusion that when it comes to getting things done it's best to hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.
--My wife usually just shakes her head when I head of to try and get something done, because we both know it's usually up to the fates and the whack a doodle house as to how long it's going to take.....

WHISPERING IN THE WIND....06/01/15

--Trying to explain something to somebody who doesn't really want to listen is kind of like whispering in the wind. A waste of breath.
--I’m sure there's a lesson there but I have yet to find it. Instead I usually smile or nod my head. Knowing full well that any input from me is going to be discarded like yesterdays trash.
--It's a backhanded way of doing this and one I have learned to adopt out of necessity. But sometimes anything else is just a waste of time.
--It's hard to change the course of a mind set when all you have are words that refuse to be heard. I guess sometimes actions speak a tad louder.....

Along came the sniffles....11/26/17

--Looking back on the whole getting a flu shot episode, I'd probably still refuse the dang fool thing. For the simple reason I was never to fond of needles.
--Of course coming down with a cold two weeks after my wife and daughter got the dang fool shot has been a real pain in the neck.
--And then there's the constant yammering about how I should have gotten the dang fool shot to contend with .
--I will say the whole thing has reminded me that sometimes the universe has a very twisted sense of humor........

LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT ONE....07/26/16

--as a rule I really hate shopping for appliances. only because nothing seems to last for very long. It seems like every six months your back in the dang fool trenches looking again.
--usually when the dang fool appliances start acting up it has a tendency to send the whole house into a tizzy. which is a pain in the neck figuring we usually lean to the whack a doodle side of even the minutest things.
--but with a little patience we find what were looking for....

The Revenge Of Smelly Kitty ......11/26/17

--Living in a house filled with five people we've had our share of smells over the years some pleasant and some down right unnatural. Throw in a few whack a doodle pets and it's the start of a real bad horror movie if the combination is mixed wrong.
--Usually living with the whack a doodle cats is pretty easy, it's only when you get a bad smelly Kitty night that it gets a tad tricky. Between changing cat boxes and spraying a bit of air fresher your kept rather busy.
--Which is probably a good thing because it keeps you moving and you really don't want to be sitting around when the breeze changes on a smelly Kitty night.....

THE DISAPPOINTING FIRST STEP....11/01/16

--Frosty mornings are kind of fun, the freshness in the air, the cool breeze, and best of all the sparkling grass covered with the morning frost.
--Of course the frost covered porch can be a bit of a pain if your a forgetful fella. Which apparently I am because when the old cane hit the frost covered porch this morning and slipped I was right behind it landing on my butt.
--Waffles came back from doing his business to find me sitting on the porch, and apparently thought it was climb daddy, because he climbed in my lap and proceeded to lick my face.
--Now I don't mind affection from a animal but not when I've fallen and can't get up. It tends to put a damper on the whole thing.
--After a couple of tries I finally got up and Waffles calmed down a bit when I did.
--It's amazing for a whack a doodle most of the time he sure knows the quickest way to a fellas heart. Sort of makes you wonder.....

WHERE DID ALL THE CHRISTMAS SPECIALS GO...12/24/15

--Part of the reason we like watching Christmas movies I think is because of the lack of holiday specials, and Christmas themed shows on network TV.
--It used to be the days after Thanksgiving were a filled with specials and Christmas themed TVs shows. But now what's passes for a holiday special, or themed shows just isn't up to those of the past.
--My wife and I solved this problem by video taping a lot of the older shows when they were first run. So we can still watch them on occasion. But I feel sorry for a lot of the younger generation who will miss out on so much decent entertainment. Unless of course they find it on you tube or spring for a DVD or to....

WITH A LITTLE BIT OF PATIENCE....11/26/17

--Usually I find most problems can be resolved with a little bit of patience.
--Oh that's not to say it isn't touch and go for a few seconds before patience kicks in.
--It seems we as humans are blessed with the fine art of overreacting. When it comes to being patient we have to call up reserves that we didn't even know were there.
--Of course being a parent helps a bit but even then it's seems to be a constant battle to keep the overreacting gene in check.
--Apparently the old universe deals the cards the way it sees a need....

The Thief and The Hoarder....11/15/17

--Out of all the personality traits the Thief and Hoarder are probably the lest bit annoying of traits to find out your pet is blessed with.
--Oh. don't get me wrong as long as you make sure all the important things are under lock and key. Things are pretty simple.
--Of course it's when you forget the basic rule of life with the little darlings that life has it's little down turns. And you end up spending hours crawling around the house trying to find your dang fool car keys, while the cats follow you not offering any help of course......

OLD MOVIES AND OLD BOOKS....07/15/15

--Summer means a lot of things to a lot of people. With us it's usually late nights watching our favorite old movies. And spending days going through old books. Getting rid of the ones you can't read more than once.
--Everyone has a favorite old book that no matter how many times you read it you always enjoy it. Well I have quite a few. And each year I try hard to weed out the plants. It’s a slow process for me unfortunately because there like old friend‘s. And I was never very good at saying goodbye.
--But over the years I’ve gotten better. It’s taken time of course. But now it's just a process in the summer.
--As far as old movies well we just like so many. And some are our favorites. With the slim picking’s in the last few years in the television programming we find ourselves drawn to some of our favorites and getting rid of just a few.....

MORNING MIST….09/05/15

--As the sun crosses the yard a mist arises from the grass slowly making it’s way into the morning sky. Tiny dewdrops can be seen clinging to everything and sparkle in the morning light.
--Of course my sunrise watching buddies are more concerned with the grasshopper they’ve trapped between them. And of course I rescued the little fool. It just seems to dang early in the morning for shenanigans of any type.
--Watching the mist arise from the yard reminds me of trying to wake up while waiting for coffee. Which for some god forsaken reason is exactly what I’ve been trying to do.
--Apparently sunrise seems so much better with coffee. Perhaps someday I’ll reach the point where it won’t be necessary but it doesn’t seem today is that day. Shaking my head I grab my cane and head back to the house. On the way I dropped the grasshopper of at a nearby tree out of the reach of Taz and squash. Hopefully the little fool will have a better day. I know I probably will when I get a cup of coffee…

Shaking the tree....11/25/17

--The other day while waiting for WAFFLES to finish exploring the dang fool front yard, I happened to remember picking apples when we were younger and I  might add a lot more agile.
--It always seemed that the biggest apples were the ones we couldn't reach. Or so far up you had to be part spider monkey to get to them.
--It would seem that the only thing left was for one of us to stand on a sturdy limb and shake it a bit until some of that fruit fell. Where the other's would promptly pick it up.
--Of course the fella in the tree doing the shaking usually got pelted by most of the falling fruit but it was worth it because they were usually the biggest and sweetest.
--Now that I look back on it I couldn't help but marvel at how mother nature and the universe were teaching a life lessons even back then. Sort of makes our wonder I suppose what they've been teaching lately while we were be distracted

How can you smile when the sky is falling 02/13/17

Oh,Christmas Tree.....11/25/17

--Over the years we've had our share of Christmas tree mishaps. That's why we learned early on a few simple things.
--1. Of course is make sure the dang fool thing is tied to the wall when your done decorating. Because if not a wayward child or cat will sure as shooting try to climb the dang fool thing. And decorating the tree the first time might be fun about the fifth or sixth time gets to be a pain in the neck.
--2. And then there's my favorite Christmas lights. In our house we stopped putting them on the tree after the first year when I caught the dang fool cat and one of the children chewing on the dang fool things. Instead we ran them around the house hanging them out of reach of the little wingnuts.
--3. We tried a real tree once it didn't quite work out to well the dim bulb dog kept drinking the dang fool water and as a result I'm still trying to get the dang fool needles out of the carpet. It was then we went with the wonders of artificial. It's not the same but spray a little pine-sol, and the pretty much smell the same. And best of all when the holidays are over you can move the whole thing in the corner. Until next year.
--When the children were younger we used to decorate it for the different holidays. Now it's turned into a dang fool cats rest, but I suppose it could be worse at least they have a place to play out of the way.
--4. And last but not least Christmas presents, in a house filled with whack a doodle cats it's really not a good idea to put presents out before Christmas. Unless of course you like wrapping the dang fool things. Because that's what happens time and again, again, again.
--All in all I'd say having a old Christmas tree in the house all year is kind of nice even if it's artificial. Just that little bit of green can provide quite the mental recharge needed to get through those rocky, days sometimes......

THE ADVENTURE'S OF I DON'T KNOW.... 07/16/16

--Raising four children was hard at times but also filled unbelievable moments of pure joy. One of the mysteries we have yet to solve is a  little darling known as I don't know.
--I'm not sure where in Sam Hill the little fellow came from, I guess he followed us home from the hospital.
--Of course it wasn't until the children started walking and running about that he began to show his true colors. Ever time something happened the blame fell square on I don't knows shoulder's.
--For awhile my wife and I thought we had a extra child running around the house.
--Then one day the little fellow struck out on his own . In a way we were sorry to see him go. but I guess it was time.
--Of course just in case we'll leave the light on for the little fellow just don‘t know when I don’t‘ might stop for a visit.....

ORGAN GRINDER JACK....05/23/15

--I often wonder who in Sam hill designs car jacks. Some of them are just plan weird.
--One of the ones that give me the biggest headache is the dang fool organ grinder jack.
--Maybe it's just me but I feel like a fool a wailing away with the dang fool thing. Banging my knuckles on the ground because there's no way to use it without doing just that.
--And there's that dang fool song round and round the mulberry bush to contend with. You know the one that the organ grinder plays to get the monkey to dance....

THE RACE....08/29/16

--When they were first planted the were just tiny little things. Barely 8in high, amazing how much they have grown in such a short time.
--Now of course they stand neck and neck about 4ft feet high. For awhile it a race to see which one would do better.
--They make a nice little setting right in the middle of all the lilacs, especially after the lilacs are done blooming.
--The brightness of the Sharon bushes adds that something extra to make the day seem brighter. Which is a two for in my book......

The Girls are a Tad Goofy.....11/25/17

--Why we were surprised to find that the four baby kittens we picked up awhile back to combat our mouse problem turned into four whack a doodles with off the wall personalities to boot is beyond  me. It seems at the house of whack a doodle  that is in fact the norm.
--I will say one thing watching Dagone, Tiggy,Baby and Spooks grow up has been a trip. Especially when the bi-polar part of the mix shows through.
--But the girls do their job and keep the mice in check, and that's what counts I guess. And I will add they do add a certain spice to the daily living arrangements that makes life interesting. Which I suppose is to be thankful for, there's  definitely never a dull moment at the house of whack a doodle with the girls around......

Funny Little Chilly View....11/25/17

--I'll say say one thing about the view from my kitchen window, even on the verge of winter there's  always something going on to spark the interest .
--Of course these days it doesn't really take much to get the old eye's to a wondering. To many late nights trying to find a comfortable place for a few hours of sleep. Leaves the old brain pan kind of lacking when it comes to finding a complete thought.
--But if it's one thing I've learned over the years it's amazing what you can get use too......

MORNING FLINCH AND THE NEW FRIEND....10/06/16

--When I put the old doll house out for morning flinch I never thought about what would happen if he had a friend over.
--When I went out to get Waffles off his run I noticed Morning Flinch on the porch of his house with a friend and the were chattering away. I thought well that's nice every one deserves a friend. Maybe I'd better see about finding another house you know just in case the little fellow decided to hang around.
--It wasn't until later that I remembered all the old doll house's piling up in the boxes of stuff we were saving for a summer sale. I went through and picked out a couple ,one for a house and one for a feeder since our last feeder kind of got wrecked by a bunch of cats climbing on it.
--I put the house's up and filled the one I planed on using as a feeder. Of course I added a slanted cat roof so the fool's would stay of them.
--Morning Flinch's little friend seemed to like the house and they both seemed to enjoy the feeder.
--Of course the cats weren't to impressed with things, but they mellowed out when they fell of the house's after trying to climb on them a few times . we'll just have to wait and see if they get the message......

EARLY MORNING MIX UP....04/17/16

--Morning's are nice that little bit of quiet before the whole house wakes up and the day begins.
--Of course when the furry little ones are running about there really isn't much quiet time . but I guess that's why we have the little furry bugs running around. At least that's what I tell myself when I'm stumbling around in the we hours trying to make coffee.
--I do have to give them credit they have gotten better over the years . Or I've gotten more tolerant in my old age.....

BROKEN TOYS…05/22/15

--I have to say going to yard sales can be an enlightening experience.
--Among all the do dad's and thing a- ma- bob's you'll usually find a table or box filled with broken toy's.
--Having raised four children I often marveled at their ability to keep their toys in relative good condition. Compared with some of the toys I’ve seen at yard sales my children's toys were in pretty good condition.
--In fact each Christmas it was hard to clear room for the new when the old was in pretty good condition....

MORNING FLINCH AND THE FRESH GRASS....09/26/16

--Taking a brake from mowing I noticed Morning flinch bouncing in the fresh cut grass, after a bit he would fly of to return a few moments later.
--Well I didn't think to much of it and went back to mowing.
--It wasn't until I was passing Morning Finch’s house that I noticed it was stuffed to the gills with fresh cut grass. Old Morning Flinch was on the porch of the doll house chattering away.
--I guess the little fool is getting ready for winter to.....

BARBECUE BUDDIES....04/17/16

--Light a fire in a grill and you'd be amazed at the kind of reception you get.
--Around our house this usually entails being chaperoned by the cats who hang around .Listening to the chattering of a few blackbirds, and fighting with the dang fool dogs going back and forth.
--Of course having eyes in the back of your head is a must. Because there’s always one cat who thinks he can walk on fire. Trying to steal a piece of meat of the grill.
--Needless to say you definitely get your exercise just lighting a dang fool fire. The real fun is when you bring the meat out....

MISTAKES....08/22/15

--I’ve always been amazed by people who are so dang burned afraid to admit they made a mistake. Even when faced with the reality of their mistake they deny that they made a mistake.
--Myself I’m the first one to admit it when I make a mistake. And my main concern is trying to learn from the dang fool thing so I don't do it again. Not sticking to some foolish line about real men don't make mistake’s. And when they do they sure as Sam hill don't admit it.
--I’ve always tried to give my children the impression it was ok to make mistake's that's how we learn. No bodies perfect.
--I really hope someday the people who have such a hard time admitting they made a mistake reach a level of maturity where they can feel comfortable enough to admit their mistakes and try to learn from them. In the mean time I guess all you can do is try to be patient and say a little prayer for them.....

IT'S A LASAGNA KIND OF NIGHT....10/31/16

--Traditions are kind of weird little things that often times hold us hostage without really realizing it. Turkey on Thanksgiving , Ham on Christmas, and Lasagna on Halloween.
--Now I really don't remember what we had when we were growing up on Halloween, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't lasagna.
--When we first got married my wife made it quite clear that having lasagna on Halloween was a tradition, it didn't make any difference if I hadn't heard of it before. I didn't really argue because I figured there were a lot of thing I hadn't heard of and plus I really liked lasagna.
--When the children were growing up they pretty much fell in line with the whole Halloween lasagna thing. Come to think of it may be that's how traditions are started.....

HOW THE MEMORIES DANCE....11/28/15

--There’s nothing like a table full of family to make the memories dance before yours eyes.
--Sure its a holiday but its also much more than that. Its a chance for everyone to enjoy the common bond of family and all the closeness it entails.
--All around the table the faces are filled with smiles and conversation is mostly a hodgepodge. Everyone feels the growing radiance of the moment.
--When the meal is done there’s a group hug of course like a seal on a time capsule it does more to reaffirm the day, than shift the mood.
--When the last dish is done and the lights turned off you can almost hear the memories dance of another thanksgiving has joyfully to passed....

GUARDIANS OF THE FLAME….11/12/14

--I love holidays for the simple reasons it gives the family an excuse to come together. Not that we need much of an excuse, but sometimes a reminder or two helps.
--In our day to day lives we become so involved in just trying to survive the ups and downs of  this crazy old world, we forget the foundation  from which we grew. The Family.
--The one place where we know were always welcome, and there’s always plenty of room, and a light always on, in case we need to pop over in the middle of the night.
--Over the years my wife and I have tried to let our children know this for a fact. It’s been hard bucking the me, me, me trend of life. But we keep trying.
--While our Holidays are not actually Hallmark moments it is nice to have everyone under the same roof for the few short hours of the day . Before they are once again off to their own corners of their own little worlds. Leaving my wife and I here as guardians of the flame of Family…

WHEN WORDS WON'T COME....07/18/16

--Sometimes when you can't find the words to say what your feeling I fall back to a good old hug.
--There's something about the gesture that say’s everything that needs to be said. without the distraction of words.
--Over the years we've used it allot in our house. From group hugs, to just a good morning greeting.
--There's allot of power in such a simple gesture. Make’s you wonder what would happen if people tried it instead yammering on about things that could be solved with just a simple hug or two.....

Leaving the light on...01/29/15

--I heard a commercial the other day for a motel I guess it was, where the announcer ended the commercial by saying we'll leave the light on for you. I just thought that was great. My wife figured maybe I was taking about wanting to go to a motel. Because she gave me a dirty look and mumbled something about what do you think got us into this mess.
--I tried to explain that what I found great was the prospect that somewhere out their somebody was leaving the light on for us, so we could find our way. She wasn't convinced of course so I quit while I was ahead.
--But seriously I’ve always tried to impress upon my children the one place where you could always count on being welcome no matter what was home. And yes their would be a light left on for them.
--That as they stumbled though life little ups and down when it got to be to much there was always room for them to come and put their feet up for a break if necessary. That’s what family was about. sticking with and by each other because that’s what family does no matter what....

A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE ?....10/28/16

--It's 4;30am in the morning you wake up hearing growling and a dish rattle, right away your over active imagination jumps in all the wrong directions. A intruder has broken in and is making himself a snack, or it's the start of a dang fool Zombie Apocalypse. Because knowing is a lot better than not knowing you turn on the light to find.
--Four kittens banging around on floor fighting over a corn chip somebody must of dropped.
--When the light comes on they all look up and realize they've been spotted. Like the furry little gremlins that they are the all make a beeline for their bed taking the dang fool corn chip with them.
--You reach for the light to turn it of but change your mind at the last second. Why give the furry little fool's a chance to sneak up on you under the cover of darkness. You still remember waking up with the little gremlins playing king of your head. And besides didn't somebody say Zombies didn't like the light.....

Tag your it..01/30/15

--When I was a child I always hated that game. Maybe because I was always getting tagged or I never really saw much sense in the whole thing. And only played the game to try and keep my brothers and sister happy.
--I guess the whole thing carried over into my adulthood in the sense that when wronged by somebody spending time plotting revenge feels like a waste of time.
--My wife of course thinks this is just plain whack a doodle. Being that the women can carry a grudge longer than some old feuding families I’ve known.
--I can't count the number of times I’ve had to step in and try to defuse situations before all out war has been declared.
--I prefer to let the universe that care of the tally of who's got what coming to them. it's easier and I don't end up playing tag your it with people.
--Sometimes this is hard especially when your taking your dogs out and slip in semi frozen chicken poo. Because your neighbor can't seem to figure out how to keep his chickens in his yard. And they've taken a fondness to spreading their little tidbits of cheer all over your yard.
--But like I said playing that dang fool game just doesn’t appeal to me.
--Let me tell you it does make for a interesting day....

SHADOWS ON THE WALL....07/21/16

--Chasing the shade on a hot summer day seems to be a full time occupation.
-Squash Buddy and Puffy were playing shadow chase. Which is a game the little dim blues seem quite fond of playing .
--I guess what it boils down to is find a shadow and keep batting it until something else gets your attention.
--I always figured cats were a little goofy, with some of their shenanigans. I guess fun is where you find it. if your a cat that is....

NEVER FORGET....04/27/17

--Myself I like to treat each day as a chance to start fresh, and go from there. Yeah I know the mistakes from the past are a crafty bunch and if you don't keep a eye on them they'll be more than happy to whisper in your ear all day long. I usually try real hard to learn from what mistakes I've made, and don't repeat them of course. Sometimes I do pretty good and sometimes let's just say I'm still learning.
--The point is lugging the mistakes of the past is like trying to run through quicksand, darn near impossible which is why I try not to do it. Of course that’s not to say the little darling don’t follow you around, it’s just I try not to be the one doing the leading.
--My wife thinks I’m a tad goofy about the whole thing but she’s pretty much gotten used to my ways after all these years. I guess that’s what makes the whole thing work….

LOOKING FOR LADY BUGS....07/29/15

--With all the humidly the dang fool bugs have gone whack a doodle. Especially the fleas. Usually we get a bunch of lady bugs that pop up every year to whittle the little fools down to size in short order.
--Apparently the lady bugs have taken a vacation, because we had to wonder round the yard looking the little darling’s. Being hot it was a tad uncomfortable but in the end it proved worth while. We found a few and gathered them into a jar to bring them in the house.
--My grandmother told me they eat fleas, and usually when their around the fleas take a hike. So it was well worth the sweating I guess.
--Now all I have to do is convince the dang fool cats to leave them alone....

MURKY MORNING LIGHT....07/27/15

--Most people probably wouldn't sit on their porch under a umbrella drinking coffee waiting for the sun to come up. But then again what do I know? Maybe there is a group of us out there who does just that. To them I say howdy. And everyone else well don't knock it till you tried it I guess.
--As far as sitting on the porch it’s relaxing before the day begins. And it gives me a little to appreciate the blessing in my life. The rain well it's a pain in the neck but the time means more to me than the discomfort. Oh I know it could all be easily be accomplished from a comfy chair in the house, but sometimes I just like to do thing's differently it keeps life interesting.
--Oh there were a few times last winter when I stood out side watching the snow fall and the sunrise. It was cool in more ways than one.
--My wife just shakes head about the whole thing of course. Over the years she’s accepted my whack a doodle ness. And loves me in spite of it….

LITTLE DOG WAFFLES... 06/23/15

--Waiting by the door each day for you to get ready to leave. He knows this will be his last chance to say how much he loves you.
--You try to get ready as quiet as can be, but it doesn’t really take much you see.
--You almost make it to the door when up with a jump he starts to shout with glee. How much he loves you and wishes you wouldn’t leave.
--You try to calm him down, you pat his little head, you tell him everything will be all right. And off you quickly go leaving behind that little dog who lets the whole world know just how much he loves you and hates to see you go..

ITS HOW I SEE IT….06/21/15

--When at first glance what appeared to be was in fact a welcome relief to what could have been. The day started looking up with the sun shining in.
--Of course that’s how it usually works if only you choose to see. But most times we see what is and wish for what should be. Then spend the day trying to get out of our rut.
--Not much is perfect in this life we've been granted. Sometimes it's all in how you look at it. Perhaps what is, is perfection in the works and it's up to us to see the beauty in it's contraction.
--It may not be perfect and it probably won't make much sense. But if I tried it any other way the day would be half spent before I found the rhythm to go on. So for now it'll have to work this way of seeing the light…..

LAWN MOWER RIDING CATS.....09/10/16

--When the children were little the used to like riding in the wagon behind the lawn mower while I mowed. Then of course the got older and found other things to amuse themselves with. Even though on occasion the would make mention of those rides with fond memories so I guess all was not wasted.
--The other day while getting ready to mow Squash was watching me with that look that said he was up to something.
--Well I didn't think to much of it until I was going around the apple tree and the little fool dropped out of the tree and landed in my lap. After I had a heart attack I started working to slow down so I could let the little fool off.
--Apparently Squash had other ideas because he got up and put two paws, on the wheel and proceeded to try to drive.
--The other cats got one look at Squash behind the wheel and took of running. Squash seemed to think this funny because he started hopping up and down.
--Much to my disappointment I realized if I didn't watch what in Sam Hill I was doing I was never going to get the dang fool yard done. So after a couple of trips around the house I let Squash of next to the porch.
--Take about your weird cats, but I guess that's what you can come to expect at the house of Whack a doodle. I don't think we've ever had a normal pet.....

WILL IT OR WON'T IT?....06/06/15

--I like rain especially on a really hot sweat dripping day. Usually it cools things off so they’re not so dang burn it hot. Rain that comes accompanied by lightning I really don’t care for so much. But what can you do except grab your life preserver and learn to drown out the noise and float through the flashes.
--Waiting to see if the electric is going to go out is a tad nerve racking and perplexing at times. Especially in a house containing pets and children. Who more or less live by the spinning meter.
--When you try to inform them of the olden days before all the modern do- dads and thing- a- bobs the response is usually a rolling of the eyes and mumbling. But like the good parent you are you inform them with the many misadventure of your childhood delights. I often wonder if my children say a silent prayer each night to the power company so they are spared the whole ordeal. Knowing my children they probably do.
--Of course like everything else in life you have to take the good with the bad. And try for a middle ground where everybody’s happy. Even if it means spending hours listening to your long winded father when the electric goes out I guess......

SELECTIVE HEARING…03/08/15

--Can you tell me how in the world cats seem to think get down and stay of the counter mean doing just the opposite?
--I became worried the other day and asked my wife if my speech was slurred, and maybe I wasn’t making any sense.
--She gave me one of those looks that said well to be honest no more than usual.
--For a minute I’d thought maybe I’d had a stroke in the middle of the night. But no it was just that cats are like children they have selective hearing. They only hear what they want to hear I guess.

THE CORRECT DIRECTION....08/15/15

--Why does it seem when your going along fine, wham something happens and your given a subtle reminder it might be a good idea to change directions?
--Usually subtlety goes out the window if your not paying attention. And I know in my case it often require a much more intense reminder. If your lucky you catch it before the game goes to far. If not well you end up redoing the puzzle you've been working on.
--Needless to say sometimes you do and go along with the flow because to change course requires a lot more than is worth it in the long run.
--It's a weird little game that I find gets out of hand if your not constantly monitoring just what in Sam hill your doing. That's why I often take a few precious moments each day to keep a eye on the days progress. And make sure everything is up to snuff. In the long run it saves a lot of headaches down the road.....

HIGH FLYING CAT....06/25/15

--Apparently Tazz has been following Hansel around too much. The little fool is starting to imitate her in her weird way’s. Mostly by tormenting poor Waffles with the game of now you see me now you don't.
--I noticed today while sitting outside enjoying the warm breeze a little extra rustling in the maple tree where Waffles run starts at. Looking up in the branches sure enough there was Tazz stalking Waffles as he ran back and forth.
--I don't think Waffles noticed until Tazz started dropping out of the tree on top of him. Scaring the life out of him and then running back up in the tree as quick as a cat.
--After about six or seven times I unhooked the little fool dog. I figured he needed a break from being dive bombed by the kitten. And I also noticed his big old toad friend was circling around the other side of the maple tree to get in on the fun. I figured the poor little fool was one step away from being driven over the edge. Since the whole being outside with nature thing was starting to get to him.
--Tazz didn't seem to mind he just switched victims and started stalking the cats who hang around the porch. The toad well who ever really knows what’s on a toads mind....

REORGANIZING....08/25/15

--For some reason about four times a year the clutter of everyday life drive's me up the wall and I start reorganizing. It usually starts with something simple and ends when the last room has been changed around and given a total cleaning.
--Of course the children hate it and often complain to their mother. But she just smile's and nods her head. Because she and I both know the little pack rats would just keep walking through the clutter as long as the path is clear.
--Of course the pet's hate it to because the vacuum and mopping for some reason hurts their sense of territory. Or they can't stand the smell of clean. I’ve never been able to figure that one out. I do know one thing accidents are cut down and the whole marking of territory go out the window for awhile.
--Of course some cat's take it as a challenge to see who can out do who. And continue with their little shenanigans. But it's a game I usually win because not only am I persistent but I’ve had more experience at dealing with the little darling's shenanigans.
--All in all it's a trying time for some, but the out come is a benefit to all. The dang fool house gets cleaned. The clutter gets straightened. The useless stuff find's a new home in the yard sale stuff, or wait's for the garbage man to be picked up.....

THE GRASSHOPPER INVASION.....09/01/16

--The tiny grasshoppers have grown up, and boy have they ever.
--Walking outside it's a toss up witch is more of a pain in the neck, the whack a doodle cats or the grasshoppers. Right now their running neck and neck.
--Even the dang fool cats are growing tired of the little whack  doodles. I guess getting constantly plated by the dang fool things is getting on their nerves.
--I know I tried to sit outside for awhile and had four land in my coffee. Talk about a nerve racking experience. I still not sure if I didn't drink a few.
--I image once the birds get hip to our dilemma the grasshoppers will be a thing of the past.
--Until then I'll be sure to drink my coffee from a cup with a cover.....

From the backseat of the car..01/25/15

From the backseat of the car..01/25/15
--Watching the world go by from the backseat of a car, is like nothing I’ve ever imagined.
--After all these years I now know why my children had such a hard time riding in the backseat, and could not wait to be old enough to move up to the front seat. It’s like a whole different world riding in the backseat.
--While nice for awhile it can be quickly become quite tiring. I mean there’s just so many ways to count tree’s before even that becomes old. And don’t get me started on whack a doodle deer, who seem to want to play peek a boo around every corner.

CAT NAPPING....06/19/15

--Sometimes it's amazing what you can learn if you open up your mind around the possibility’s. For years my wife would be ambling right along doing her thing and then would abruptly announce she had to lie down for a quick nap. Twenty minutes later she'd be up totally refreshed and bopping right along again.
--Of course when we first got married I just figured it was another of her quirky little delight's of cat behavior she'd kept hidden when we were dating.
--Over the year's it's finally gotten through my think head that a twenty minute recharge can reset your batteries and give you that little boast you need to make it through the day.
--Of course if my wife's behavior wasn't enough to change my thick headed option there were the countless examples of whack a doodle cat and their little catnapping shenanigans.
--But like I said as with everything else the dang fool women brought myself slowly around to her way of thinking. Bless her little heart. I wouldn't know what I’d do without my twenty minute cat naps......

PEEK A BOO BUNNY....07/28/15

--My son's pet rabbit and I on occasion play peek a boo. Which entails me opening my sons bedroom door and trying to catch his dang fool rabbit so I can say peek a boo.
--I know you'd think a grown man could find better thing's to do with his time. Apparently I can't because each of these whack a doodle pets and I have a game we play.
--With Brownie it’s peek a boo. The first couple of times I caught him and he'd spend a few minute stomping his feet in anger to let me know he wasn't happy.
--Now of course when I open the door. He’s standing up starring at me with his mouth open as if say ha ha fool.
--Of course if the dang fool children hadn't of made me watch a video with a dang fool bunny running around playing peek a boo when they were little. I probably wouldn’t be doing it now. With four children that dang fool bunny was playing peek a boo everyday. They fell it love with him when they were babies and the friendship lasted for quite awhile.
--It got so bad they forced me to play peek a boo with them and even made me watch it so I would learn the right way to do it. Apparently I wasn’t very good.
--Many a night I heard that bunny in my sleep and the children laughing hysterically. In a way it was kind of comforting. Because I’ve always believed laughter is the best medicine.
--Over the years even on bad days I’ve mad it a point to laugh. Of course my wife was a little unnerved at first when we first got married. But now she come to expect such behavior. And usually just shakes her head and smiles…

BIG JOBS HAVE THE WORST BITE.....08/28/16

--Every once in awhile like silent stalker they are, they sneak up behind you, tap you on the shoulder and whisper,” Remember me?".
--Oh you know the one I'm talking about. That Big job you've been putting off for so long it's almost become a mantra.
--But like the fickle task master that karma is when you've finally reached the end of her patience. Whamo, your hip deep in reality lesson 101. And it's time for the Big job munchies and crunchies.
--Of course it proves to be more than just a pain in the neck, more like a royal soul crusher. But with patience you slowly reach the last hurtle. And mumble to yourself,” Well that was fun."
--And just before you drift of into rocky slumber your pretty sure hear the faint sounds of laughter from somewhere afar. The whisper words hang in the air like the unanswered question that they are,” You might want to check that dang fool list fella for the next Big job. Because I'll be waiting for the next Big bite.".......

SLEEPY EYED DOG WALKER....02/11/16

--I’ll say one thing about taking dogs out to do their business in the wee hours of the morning. It sure makes for a quick wake-up.
--There's something about that early morning air that perks you right up.
--Of course the dogs are not to crazy about going out ever two hours. But it does cut down on the Shenanigans so it's a two for in my book.
--And the up side is after a brisk trip outside in the frosty air, sleep comes a little easier. So that's always a plus....

LOOKING FOR THE SUNRISE....02/11/16

--Generally it's not hard to find a reason to have a bad day. That's if your looking that is. I usually shoot for a good one and leave the other shenanigans for others to worry about.
--I figure life’s to short and it's allot easier to take things with a smile than a dang fool frown. But hey different strokes I guess what ever gets you through the day.
--Of course my wife seems to think I’m a old pink hat wearing fool who doesn't worry about anything. Which isn't true. It's just that I don't spend allot of time worrying bout things I really have no power over. And I sure as Sam hill don't let them ruin a perfectly good day.
--But like I said everybody has their own way of handing things. That’s what makes this old world such a great place.....

THE AMAZING LITTLE CLOUD BURST.....07/17/16

--Before the little drizzle it was so hot and humid it felt like being slowly crushed by a blanket of super heated air.
--Afterwards the temp dropped so far you could actually walk  with out sweating through your shirt. Even the cats were happy and running about.
--I guess little blessing come in all shapes and sizes......

SITTING ON THE PORCH....04/13/15

--Funny thing about sitting on the porch after a winter of being trapped inside. Everything takes on a new light. Cool breezes filled with the ever changing smells of spring. Cars rushing by oblivious to the speed limit. And the clutter of winters final passing. Already the spring cleanup list is forming.
--Of course the list is endless or so it would seem. But the best part is finally being released from winter's prison.
--Oh thing's will be whittled down in the passing day's. For right now its just a breakout day.
--The dogs of course are not happy with the turn of events. Spending the morning with all this nature seems to have warped their nerves a bit. But hey it could be worse, at least it's not snowing! ....

NO GREATER JOY….03/23/15

--Listening to the songs of spring, hearing the snow plow flying by. All these and many more are slowly filtering in as I sit with coffee while mumbling.
--It was supposed to be the quiet time, and perhaps once it was. Now it more like a bus station with hourly calls for passage.
--But even on it's darkest roller coaster nights, it's sure as Sam hill better than any that came before.
--I wouldn't trade it for anything. There’s no greater joy than realizing the simple things are what it's all about.....

LIFE ON A MERRY GO ROUND....05/14/15

--I often marvel at my wife's ability to see through my inability to stay on track. It’s not that I’m easily distracted. I just have a problem keeping focus sometimes.
--When this happens my wife like’s to change things around a bit. At first this would drive me crazy. I’d go to the store, or go out and mow and when I got back everything would be changed around.  It drove me nuts. It was like living on a merry go round.
--It wasn't until many years latter that I realized there was a reason for all the dang fool Merry go round business. Change is good. And sometimes it's just what people need to get back on track.
--Of course I still am not to happy with change but slowly I’ve come to accept it. And have even been known to start the process myself from time to time. Much to the shock and anger to our children.....

Winding Up Cat's, Dog's and Children....11/19/17

--Want to throw a bunch of whack a doodles over the edge pop a turkey or chicken in the oven and watch the fun.
--The whack a doodles outside keep peeking in the porch window looking for the owner of that heaven sent smell, and the cat's and dog keep trying to take a peek in the oven whenever the dang fool door is open.
--Even the children get a little more excited when there's a bird in the oven come to think of it. Instead of their usual outing for food they have a tendency to check the progress of the bird hourly.
--If it wasn't for the hassle of cooking the dang fool thing is just make a fella want turkey and roasted chicken more often than a couple times a year around the holiday season .....

THINGS THAT GO BUMP....04/20/15

--Every year part of spring is checking the yard for things that could brake the lawn mower. Like rocks that seem to pop up from nowhere. And branches that fall during winter. Or just about anything that might damage the dang fool lawn mower.
--Being that we have a yard that goes whack a doodle when the snow melts and starts a race to see how fast it can grow. It’s kind of a good idea to make sure nothing’s going to bust the dang fool lawn mower. No one wants to push a mower through the dang fool weeds that end up growing if it gets out of control.
--Then of course there's the other side of the coin every time something brakes on the dang thing it usually costs a arm and leg to fix.
--So usually I take a tour of the yard looking for thing’s that might brake the dang fool lawn mower. It makes for a somewhat pleasant reason to get out of the house and hopefully it'll end up saving in the long run....

CARDBOARD BOX HOUSES....10/27/17

--When the children were little they used to love playing with cardboard boxes, so much so that for a while we had quite a few all over the place.
--Then of course they got older and were not so easily amused.
--When we began having cats in the house the children returned to their love of cardboard boxes and  started building houses for the cats.
--And it seemed life was turned around again so to speck.
--Now the children are older, and the cats are a bit older to for that matter to.
--Oh, we still have plenty of houses around it just seems to be getting harder and harder to get the two groups together again.
--I'll have to give the cats credit they have begun stealing the children's stuff and hiding it in there boxes. I figure it's just a matter of time and a few placed comments before they all start playing together again.
--I mean after all taking a few minutes to play with the furry little gremlins is part of the reason to have the little whack a doodles around.........
