--For some reason as the years go by with every year’s passing new arrivals are added to the mixture just to keep life interesting. or so it would seem.
--My wife looks at me and shakes her head when she hears me say something like," well that's a new one." and I’ll stop short as a new ache or twitch has made a pop up appearance in the day.
--She doesn't say much because the whole process has been going on for as long as we've been married and even before for that matter. Usually it takes me a minute or two getting a handle on things before I can continue what ever the Sam hill I was doing. But once I do then it's back to the swing of thing's. As best as I’m able.
--Yesterdays new arrival was a bit unexpected because it happened while shopping and sort of left me stranded. Leaning on a shopping cart waiting patiently for my wife and son to find me.
--For some reason the whole dang fool thing struck me as funny. Probably because over the years I’ve developed a very weird sense of humor.
--When my wife and son did finally happen along my wife just smiled and started pulling the cart. She didn’t ask what was the matter. and I pushed as much as I was able.
--The whole thing reminded me of allot of things but mostly just how much I love my wife. And the little blessing that come along each day to make life interesting in their own special way.....

OLD BATTERY MIX UP….
--Every house has a drawer where miscellaneous things end up. Better known as the junk drawer.
--Our house has one in the kitchen, and I have one in my desk. Why I have never been able to figure out. Even though I usually make many attempts to keep the one in my desk cleaned out. It never stays that way for long it .
--There’s nothing worse then going into the junk drawer and finding the package of new batteries that was put in there has turned over spilling the contents.
--Because not only are there now new batteries but also old batteries that were tossed in the roiling around saying howdy to each other.
--It’s not bad really unless your in a hurry trying to fill a flashlight. Then in becomes a pain in the neck.
--If anything it teaches patience as you keep trying the dang fool things, looking for the right combination that will produce a little light. It also reminds you to find a better place to keep new batteries.
--But like everything else in life you realize you probably won’t find a new place because old habit’s are hard to brake. And there lie’s the problem those dang fool habit’s that sneak up and bite you in the butt at the worst of time’s. Especially the little tiny ones like dropping things in a dang fool junk drawer.
--So you pledge to yourself enough of this. Clean out the junk drawer. And instead of taking the easy out put the stuff where it goes in the first place. It’s not much but it’s a start of course. Sometimes that’s all it takes….

MOONLIGHT AND MISHAPS….
--Standing on the front porch with coffee cup in hand, in the pale moon light I couldn't help but think perhaps it would have been smarter to go back to bed and try for more sleep. Letting my eyes become accustomed to the half light I took another sip of coffee and let cool crisp morning air seep into my pours like a cool splash of water.
--When I could make out the porch railing I knew my eyes were as accustomed as they were going to get so I made my way down the porch stairs using the dang fool cane.
--The only thing I’ll say about plastic lawn furniture is being white their somewhat easy to find in the semi dark. As far as being comfortable, not so much. That‘s why I try not to sit for to long in any one place.
--The first one I found was next to waffles run. Not being to choosy I sat down, and tried for some comfort.
--Even before I leaned back I knew it was a bad idea. And sure enough thanks to good old waffles and the trench he's dug next to run. It proved to be true. When I sat back the dang fool chair went over taking me with it.
--Luckily I had sat my coffee on the tire next to the maple tree. It didn't spill. But I sure as Sam hill did. Right on my back whacking my head on the dang fool tire. Rather than get up I sat there in that dang fool plastic lawn for minute thinking about thing's. And then I started laughing of course. Because for some dang fool reason it just seemed funny.
--Getting up would have been easy if I could have found the dang fool cane. But after a couple of attempts I finally made it up on the tire where I drank some more coffee and smiled at the cats sitting on the porch railing watching me.
--I’ll say one thing about cats their consistent. Some will sit back and wait and see how things play out. And others are more curious and will investigate.
--Looking down at the ground I could just make out old Blacky, and the old male cat nudging my leg. Blacky I expected, she’s a old mother hen and likes to keep a eye on everyone and everything. The old male cat was a bit of a shock. In all the times he’s been around he’s been more standoffish not really bothering anyone or seeking any attention .But hey I guess that’s the thing with cats once you think you've got them figured out they change just to keep you on your toes.
--Well I patted them both on the head. And reached down and retrieved my cane. And started of on my moonlight walk. Because I knew for certain if I went back in the house I’d probably be along time before I ventured out for a moonlight walk again.
--From one serenity chair to the next I went without further mishaps thankfully. The one in the woods was where I watched the sunrise, and then I made my way back to the house.
--I will say one thing there’s nothing like a moonlight walk under the stars with a sunrise to boot that makes a fella grateful for the little things in life.....

MORNING COFFEE MOUSE....
--Normally I’m not the must hospitable person in the world before I’ve had a few sips of coffee. Just ask the cats and dogs and kittens. They've learned to keep the shenanigans to a minimum before I’ve had coffee.
--Apparently the word hasn't spread to the world of the mice yet. Because for the last few day when I’ve tried to pour coffee there’s been a dang fool mouse trying to play peek a boo with me.
--Which is just what you need when your trying to pour real slow with a dang fool coffee pot that been designed to pour half it's contents all over the counter if you pour to fast.
--Needless to say 2 days running the little fool has distracted me so I’ve done just that.
--This morning after the coffee was done I took the whole dang pot to my desk before pouring. And promptly told gandoll and bob they better catch the dang fool or else.
--Much to my surprise gandoll did just that. Because when I came out in the kitchen later he was sitting proudly with the little fella in his mouth.
--Apparently even cats like a little peace and quiet in the morning too......

EXCEPTIONS AND CONTENTS…
--When it comes to pizza it seems everyone has a favorite brand or type. And will defend their choice till the wee hours of the night .
--Standing in a store or beside a phone book is like a meeting in the united nations. Trying to get everyone on the same page is one of the most mind bending and head scratching things to do. and if you addle minded enough to throw home made pizza into the mix which I usually do. It just builds a bigger fire for everyone to fight around.
--Myself I just try to keep it simple. Price, size, and contents. But then again I was never overly impressed with the whole dang fool pizza craze in the first place. Much to my families distrust.
--But every once in awhile I’ll play the fool and let the dang fools fight it out so they can have their night of fun and frolic driving each other whack a doodle crazy picking just the right one.
--Of course when it’s all over and the crusts are piled high then the dang fool’s pick apart the little delights like a bunch of food critics with a ax to grind.
--I’ll say one thing it sure keeps the little darling’s busy and on the same page for the night. Which in my book is a two for. Now if I could figure out how to get them that excited about every other meal of the week I’d be doing something….

FINDING THE RIGHT ONE….
--For some reason buying cat food and dog food has become another of those try and buy type deals.
--Reading all of the package information doesn’t seem to help because they all pretty much say the same thing when it comes to contents.
--It’s only when you get it home later, and start feeding the poor little darling’s you find out about just what in Sam hill is or isn’t in the dang fool bag.
--This one make the poor thing’s hungry all the time, or that one makes their hair fall out.
--And when you do happen to find one that works. For some dang fool reason after a period of time. You have to start the whole dang fool game over again because either the formula for the food has changed or the dang fool animals are just whack a doodle and want a change.
--I will say one thing after all these years it’s getting to be quite the adventure to find a food for the little darling that doesn’t change after six months…..

COOKIES IN THE AFTERNOON....
--Baking cookies is always fun. Especially Christmas cookies.
--Sugar cookies decorated for fall gives everybody a chance to help and show their artistic talents.
--And the best part of all it's something where everybody can see the rewards of working together.
--Of course the fact that it also provides a tasty snack goes along way’s to making the whole experience a two for in my book.....

REMINDING YOURSELF TO BE PATIENT....
--If there’s anything I hate it's having to remind myself to be patient when the turbulent times start. With the constant up and down temps. The nights become harder, and the days become longer. At lest until we get back into the prewinter swing of things.
--The whole process is a massive pain in the neck especially since summer seems to have been such a short lived affair this year.
--At times like these it's so easy to become frustrated. And quite bitter, if I’m not careful so I have to constantly remind myself to be patient. It's a never ending process but one that pays for itself. Because wallowing in the doldrums is a forgone conclusion once you start down the bitter road.
--It's allot of work but well worth it in the end. And gives me plenty of time to enjoy the start of a new season filled fall colors and wonderful cooling temps....

AMAZING WHAT YOU FIND....
--For some dang fool reason I decided to clean the car out. You know vacuum clean up and out the little bits of garbage and what not of course.
--Crawling around the inside of a car with a vacuum can be hazardous to your health. Especially when your trying to get the dirt under the seats and the vacuum comes crashing down on top of you.
--One thing I will say a vacuum is a sure way to scare up bug and creepy crawlies. I was amazed at just how many dang fool spiders hang out in the dang fool car.
--Which was a good thing because my wife doesn’t like spiders especially when she’s driving. When she spots one it makes for a really bumpy ride as she pulls over and gets the Sam hill out of the car.
--All in all I’d say it was well worth all the bumps and scrapes, the cars clean and the bug are gone. It should be a quiet ride the next time we go out and about....

FRONT YARD ANGEL....
--While out and about the other day we passed a yard that had a giant stone angel in the side yard. It was really quite stunning with the sunrise casting a reddish glow over it’s majestic wings.
--Apparently the animals thought so to there was a deer, a half dozen squirrels, 2 geese, and what looked like a couple of black birds and Robbins resting on the angels wings.
--When we came back after the sun went down, you could just make out the shadow of the angel. It sure made me wonder if the animals were still hanging about. For some reason I had the feeling if not they were nearby waiting for the morning sunrise.
--Of course my wife thought the whole thing was cool until I told her I wanted to get one for out yard. She said I’m sure it would be nice but do you really think we need to attract any more animals. I had to concede the point. We all ready have a steady stream of whack a doodle visitors to our yard. Putting a 6ft angel out there would probably just open the flood gates.....

STICKY SWINGING DOORS....
--Finding out you have a sticky swinging door when your about to take a step through it kind of sucks. You end up walking into the dang fool doorjamb.
--Of course fixing a sticky swinging door is a real treat. But it's better than letting the thing go and keep walking into it. I guess life’s like that sometimes.
--Finding help for fixing a sticky swinging door fix, fortunately is allot easier than the fixing. But again life’s like that to I guess.
--When the whole things done and the dang fool door no longer sticks everything is again good. It really is amazing how one little thing like a sticky swinging door can throw your whole day out of whack....

THE THING’S YOU FORGET....
--I still find the amount of thing's that hinge on each other a constant source of amazement. Forget to do one and like domino’s they all go whack a doodle.
--Such simple little darling's by themselves but when they start acting up boy what troublesome mess to contend with.
--For some reason usually most of the trouble that pops up can be traced to one or two of those thing s that need to be done everyday. You would think after all these years a fella would make sure the dang fool thing got done everyday. Thus avoiding problems down the line. And I have to admit it is my intention to make sure that happens. But it's amazing what happens in the course of a day. And how many times you can get sidetracked.
--But like everything in life you just have got to take the good would the bad and make the best of it I guess....

THE OLD CAT....
--While watching the sunrise from my serenity chair, a long wailing cry arose somewhere in the distance. With out getting up and looking I knew what it was and who the violators of the peaceful morning were. Those 2 male cats were going at it again.
--It never fails to amaze me how you can have a yard full cats dogs bugs and what not. And you'll always find the males of any species ready and willing to go at it over the most stupidest things.
--Right now we seem to be blessed with 3 male cats 2 young and one older fella. Who really doesn't do much. The younger ones are always going at each other over something stupid.
--I guess life’s like that sometimes. You take the good with the stupid and make the best of it.
--While I was walking up the steps to the porch the old cat just looked at me and yawned. I guess he wasn't impressed either. Oh well I guess it could be worse. I patted him on the head and went in the house to start the day....

WILDFLOWERS ARE WEEDS!.....
--While out and about the other day I noticed somebody had turned their front yard into a flower garden. It actually looked pretty cool.
--When I asked my wife why we didn’t do that she just looked at me with a look that pretty much said it all.
--I’ll be the first to admit I’m not fond of mowing. Riding around the dang fool yard on a contraption that’s seems to have been designed to shake your innards up and brake down at every given opportunity. A push mowers not much better but at lest they have a better track record when it comes to running.
--And I guess wildflowers are classified as weeds by must people. I still like them and have been known to give over whole sections of the yard just to give them at shot at growing so I can enjoy their beauty…..

CLEANING THE ICEBOX....
--Washing out a icebox is a pain in the neck. Mostly because it seems nobody can figure out that when spills are make it's easier to wipe them up right then instead of waiting until they been transformed to some hardened alien substance from the side of a space ship.
--After years of emptying the dang fool icebox and disassembling all the dang fool do dads just to be able to get all the nooks and crannies. I opted instead to let the children do it. Especially since they were the fools who were in to much of a hurry to wipe the spills up.
--After much grumbling, and fumbling they finally decided it might be a good idea to try and work together to get the job done. Amazingly they were able to do it, and still keep a sense of humor about the whole thing. Especially when after they were done one of them made a spill and was going to walk away but was pelted in the back of the head with sponges by the other two.
--It appears a lesson was learned by all. and the icebox got cleaned in the process.....

GANDOLL AND BOB....
--When Bob and Gandoll first were introduced by the fates it was a case of oh hello. A few sniffs a meow and that was about it.
--Waffles and Jerry lee pretty much the same except for some reason Waffles had to toughly check out the little fella. Much to bob's dismay. After all the intro’s were performed everything returned to the status quo.
--Much to our surprise there were no late night shenanigans and the morning found a bunch of sleepy eyed animals when the day finally broke through the window.
--Of course having been round the bend with the furry little darling a time or to the only thing we could do was count our blessings. And hope tomorrow was just as bright....

GREAT DAY IN THE MORNING....
--Doing math waiting for the coffee to perk isn't my idea of fun. But that’s what happens when you have 5 people waiting patently for the dang fool thing to perk.
--Of course it would probably help if everyone was quiet about the whole thing and the dog wasn't howling to the Christmas clock chime. But hey what do expect in a house filled with whack a doodles.
--Apparently a 12 cup pot only goes so far. At lest when 5 over-sized cups are involved. Because when the last cup was poured it was up to dear old dad to start another pot.
--But like all things it was worth the wait. If it was just to see the smiles on the zombie faces when they took that first sip and slowly transformed into something that resembled human beings.....

PRICKER BUSH TRIM....
--Having finally had enough of the wayward branches of the picker bush that grows next to our porch. I decided to trim the dang fool thing. Because if there one thing that’s a pain in the but its getting slapped silly by a branch filled with picker when your trying desperately to climb the dang fool porch steps.
--My wife reminded me it was a flower bush because no normal person would grow a picker bush next to there porch. And I reminded her its kind of hard to see flowers when your getting slapped silly by branches filled with pickers. Of course the augment was left unfinished. Because even though we were both right it just wasn't worth debating any further.
--I will say one thing about the dang fool bush it’s also filled with some of the most ugliest spiders I’ve seen in awhile. And the little darling really don't like to be disturbed. Amazing what you find out when your holding a hedge trimmer standing on a ladder and trying not to fall into a picker bush.....

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT....
--In the spirit of working together my son's decided to hang laundry together. I happened by on my way to vacuum and thought I fallen into a Abbot and Costello movie.
--I don't know what was funnier my 2 giant sons crammed into our tiny laundry room trying to work together. Or the dialogue that resulted.
--I had to leave and go vacuum, because quite frankly it was a bit much. Especially when my oldest chased my youngest out of the laundry room because he kept knocking down coat hangers. And my youngest picked up a coat hanger and challenged my oldest to a duel. They ended up with a compromise of sorts. My youngest vacuumed and my oldest hung the laundry.
--I guess it just goes to show some times to best to split the work load rather than try to cram to giant people into a tiny laundry room....

THE 3 HOUR 5 MINUTE JOB....
--Spending 3 hours in the hot sun taking apart a snow blower is not really my idea of a good time. Especially since the purpose behind the whole ordeal was a simple 5 minute job.
--But like everything in life it's the little things that seem to be the most complicated.
--I will say one thing, I probably no longer suffer from a vitamin d deficiency. And have learned just what goes into the production process of a snow blower. Not that it was on the top of my list of thing to learn. But life's like that sometimes. Its not what you want but what you need I guess.
--Once the dang fool thing is running, there will be no more being held hostage by old man winter when your driveway is filled with snow and the only thing you have to clear it with is a bad back and a snow shovel. So I guess it all works out in the end....

CHRISTMAS CLOCK WAKE UP....
--Pouring coffee half awake is all right as long as you remember the dribble effect. You know that design enhancement they put into every pot where if you don't pour mind numbingly slow you'll dribble half the dang fool thing all over the place.
--Everything thing was going pretty good this morning. Had one eye open because the other one just didn't want to wake up just yet. Managed to add the right amount of scoops, and water. And even managed to hit the switch without a hitch.
--Even got to the point where my cup was half full when that dang fool Christmas clock went off and started banging away at some dang fool version of a Christmas coral. It seems I forgot I’d just replaced the batteries the other day.
--Of course the dog started howling and the kittens went whack a doodle crazy. Jerry lee and Gandoll just opened one eye and gave me such a look. as I poured coffee all over the place but in my cup. Which probably wouldn't have been so bad but half of it went down the front of me.
--Of course any other person probably would of lost it right there. But not me. I put the pot back and finished howling along with the dang fool dog to the Christmas coral.
--Waffles just looked at me like I was nuts. So I took a bow and told him I’d be back in a hour for a encore.
--When I came back in the living room my wife just looked at me and shook her head as she sipped her coffee. I guess after all these years she's pretty much grown accustomed to my brand of whack a doodle ness.....
SUCH A SIGHT....
--Watching the sunrise the other morning, for some reason my mind wondered to all the wondrous sight's I’ve seen over the years. It's amazing really the way the mind works sometimes. How one simple thing will trigger another and another until you find yourself staring at something you haven’t thought about for year's.
--I don't usually take trip's down memory lane because its a two faced beast that if I’m not careful will usually comes back to bite me in the butt. And frankly I’ve got enough on my plate trying remember how to use a dang fool cane. And deal with each new found ache that seems to snap at my heals each day.
--As the sunrise slowly climbed into the sky painting it with colors that were pleasant and warm. I remember the sunrise on the day after I got married, and that lead to the days of each of my children's birth.
--Such a sight they were the memory brought tears to a old fools eyes. Oh the milestones over the years were there dancing along side by side flashing in all their glory. And I realized why I like sunrises I guess. To me it signifies a new beginning and anything’s possible.
--That is if we really want it. The day is ours and were free to make anything with it that we wish. Good bad it's up to us. Its a choice we all have to make with that first step of the day.
--Taking a drink of coffee I realized sitting in a plastic chair on a chilly morning probably wasn't going to motivate me much if I didn't get my butt moving. So with one last look at the morning sky I headed of to start my day. hobbling of with that dang fool cane of course....

SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON'S....09/12/15....
--Even though just about all the cartoons have fallen of the air waves into some pit of no longer. I do miss them. It was the one opportunity to be able to sit down with the children and watch something together and have a pretty good harmless time.
--Of course the children are all older now. And some of the shows they enjoy are not exactly our cup of tea. We do try to find the least offensive ones and give it a go from time to time.
--When it comes to Saturday morning cartoon's, I find I still like a few of the old favorite's. And from time to time I watch a few while drinking my morning coffee.
--This morning when my wife came out into the kitchen she found the children and me laughing like a bunch of fools watching a old DVD of Saturday morning cartoons on the laptop. She shook her head and went back into the living room to enjoy her coffee. I guess there's just some thing's coffee’s better without....
WAFFLES DOESN'T SHARE FOOD....
--Most of the time waffles is a friendly little fella, he's more than happy to bark a greeting anytime time of the day. Or night for that matter.
--When it comes to food it's another story altogether. When his plate is full he becomes a self absorbed monster who is bent on finishing it above all else. He growls at anything that comes close to his dish. And even boogers who no one but he can see.
--Once he found out a mouse was stealing pieces of his food when he wasn't looking and almost lost what was left of his little mind. He spent 2 day's waiting for the dang fool mouse before he caught it. When my wife came in the kitchen that morning he was so proud he dropped it at her feet.
--Jerry lee on the other is more than happy to share. And has on occasion with wondering cats or kittens who have taken a liking to dog food for some reason.
--The contrast in the 2 dogs personalities reminds me of some people I’ve known over the years. It's amazes me to no end sometimes how personality traits are so universal in their inhabitants....

DANCING FOOL'S....
--Coming into the kitchen the other day I found my wife dancing with waffles to the chime of the Christmas clock. It was a sight. I don’t know who enjoyed it more waffles or my wife.
--It reminded me of all the dancing we've done over the years. And there have been a few. With crying children suffering through teething, with each other for no reason other than it was fun.
--Of course now that the children are older it's kind of hard to get them to dance. In fact when it was tried just recently you'd of thought it was a invasion of their personal space. That needed to be fought off at all cost.
--But after a patient explanation that it was nobodies purpose to invade anybody’s personal space. It was agreed it might be fun and we were all able to enjoy a few minutes of closeness once again as a family.
--Hug's were a staple at one time. Freely given and quite often. Now it seems the more space maintained the better everyone feels. That also had to be straighten out just recently. Much to the dismay of our children.
--Now of course, were on a back swing of sorts. Hug's and dancing have once again become a staple. And I’ve noticed a resurgence of untapped closeness that hasn't been present in some time.
--The children of course probably have their own option about the whole thing. And have chosen not to share because sometimes it's just easier to humor a long winded old fool than force him to drag out his old soapbox....

BANGING OUT THE BUMPS....
--Over the course of time it always seems there’s bound to be a few bumps in the road that have to be ironed out. Little things that could be a problem if allowed to continue.
--With a little more patience they can be usually be worked out. Except of course when there done on purpose as a compromise to doing things in general. When that’s the case it's a whole different ball of yarn. And usually have to be addressed before they get out of hand. But in general with patience I’m finding things can be worked out.
--When I was younger I hated puzzles. They drove me whack a doodle trying to fit all the dang fool pieces into a pattern that resembled the picture on the box. Little did I know becoming a parent was basically the same thing just on a grander scale. Over the years the amount of puzzles we've had to unravel have been both a adventure and a head scratchier.
--Of course I wouldn't want to change a day of it if I could.
--There's something about learning to live and work together that gives a person no greater satisfaction I’m finding proven again and again.
--It does require massive amounts of patience. Something I’m still learning, but like everything it comes easier with time I’m finding.
--And yes I’ve learned to accept a lot of things like puzzle’s, as a way of life....

KIND OF HARD BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE....
--Getting people to work together, is sometimes hard but not impossible. If everybody puts aside their differences for a time. Strange things happen like the ability to actually work together towards a common goal. At lest that's the theory.
--When I proposed this to my children their response was extreme fidgeting, and allot of eye rolling. but with the thought of a day spent listening to the old man on his soapbox. Retelling of day's and stories of his forgotten youth they came around.
--The end result was we got allot accomplished. And the little darling were not the worse for wear. Even though by their retelling it was a nightmare.
--Truth be told by the time we were done everybody was laughing and working along side of each other like one big family. Of course when they were done they ran back to their respective rooms and contemplated the experience.
--Sort of makes you wonder what the next time will be like....

SINGING IN THE RAIN....
--Usually when it rains, I’m pretty down in the mouth. The change in weather does a number on me. It's all I can do just to maintain.
--Today found me out waiting for the dang fool dogs, to do their business in a light drizzle. For some dang fool reason I found the whole thing quite amusing. Leaning on a cane standing in a light rain waiting for a couple of dogs who were watching me. So I decided to give them a moment of privacy and took a little walk. Because I knew if I went back in the house the fools would be barking before I even got my coat of.
--For some reason I ended up at one of my serenity chairs sat down and started singing a silly song while I waited.
--I’ll have to give my wife credit all these years she's been singing in the rain and I’d just shake my head in wonder. I guess I never realized what in Sam hill she was talking about until I tried it. The sense of melancholy it brought about was amazing.
--When I came back in the house with the 2 dogs dragging me all the way. I found that even though I felt like I’d been wailed on with a bag of rocks the mental recharge I’d gotten was going to give me enough inspiration to get through what promised to be a long Derry day.....

WAFFLES AND YARD SALE DUTY....
--Waffles loves to bark. When he can't find anything I swear the fool just barks to hear the sound of his voice.
--During yard sales, it proves to be about the only time it's really useful. If you need to leave for a minute waffles is more than happy to keep a eye on thing's for you. Of course he barks at everything. So if don't mind running back and forth it work's out pretty good.
--When somebody does show up he just goes insane. Between the barking and hopping up and down. He acts like a little nut.
--But for such a little fella he does have boundless amounts of energy. sometimes I just get a kick out of watching the fool carry on....
THE VALLEY OF DOOM....
--For the most part I try to look on the bright side of thing's. When there's no bright side in sight I try to put a positive spin on thing's.
--Sometimes this is pretty easy and sometimes I really have to work hard at it. I adopted this attitude many years ago when I came to the realization that looking at the dark side of things just didn't seem to help much. In fact at times it was drowning without being underwater. Emotional drowning I guess.
--Since I adopted this attitude thing's work much better. Even though day days run hot and cold for the most part I have some pretty good days.
--One thing I really have a hard time will lately is people always looking on the dark side of thing's. The old doom and gloom, running through them and pretty much their whole outlook on life. Life is hard enough at times and doesn’t really need our help hammering ourselves willingly into the ground. Why some people can’t seem to realize this, sure makes me scratch my head in wonder at times.
--Until of course I remember my own misbegotten younger years, and my dances with the dark side. When I hard a hard time finding things to be positive about. And spent many a dark hour waiting for the other shoe to drop.
--Rather than turn away from those poor souls lost in the dark doldrums I try to reassure them. And of course say a little prayer for them. I know it isn’t much. But sometimes a life preserver is all you can offer. Until they decide they’ve had enough of dancing with the dark side. Trying for a little change in their life.
--Hopefully they’ll see the light and be able to find their way. Where the days get better, and the night’s get easier to take.
--In the mean time I try to reassure them the best I can and keep my eyes pealed for their waving hand….

A PICTURE IS ALL IT TAKE'S....
--Sometimes it amazes me how with a picture of just what I is you want your able to put it together. Of course I usually draw the dang fool thing in my mind, but for some reason it still works.
--Usually it’s process of trail and error. But after awhile with a little perseverance I’m able to put it together.
--As hard as I try to explain the process to my children it seems to be such a foreign concept they have as yet been able to grasp it.
--Maybe someday. I’m hoping with enough example's they'll figure out what in Sam hill I’m talking about.....

THE TINY TUMBLE....
--Over the years there have been a few thing's I’ve had to come to terms with. And have been better for the experience. And some well lets just say I’m working on them.
--One of the thing's that's getting harder as the year's creep along is falling down. No longer are those tiny tumble's easily shaken of and laughed about as brief moments of whack a doodle ness. Now it seems even a tiny tumble will try to set me back a few days with enough extra aches and pain's to drive a sane fella around the bend. Lucky for me I guess I’ve never danced to close to the normal edge to be judged either way.
--And even though on bad days I’ll plot my trips about with great care, it must be woven into my dna somewhere that I’m going to fall on my butt. Because no matter how careful I am it seems for some reason or another I always end up on my butt at lest once a day.
--I find it amazing really. How in the Sam hill it keeps happening is beyond me but it's slowly convinced me that I’m just a natural born klutz.
--That being the case I still maintain the ever forward approach and keep moving. Even on those days when any sane person would just sit and contemplate the meaning of life rather than taking a tumble and upsetting the apple cart.
--I guess it just goes to show even old dogs are a bit slow at times....

A BIT OF THE OLD DAY'S....
--For some reason listening to a TV program at night while trying to sleep reminds me of the old days when we used to huddle around the radio listening to radio shows late at night.
--For some reason the radio station where we lived would only play the thing's late at night. So I’d spend hour's getting it in enough so everybody could hear them. We all enjoyed them while they lasted. Which unfortunately was for a short time.
--But there was something about hearing the spoken word without all added weight of the picture's that helped us form the them from our imagination. Which helped us all later in life I guess.
--I know for one thing all my children have taken to listening to TV shows and old radio for that matter. And as far as imagination their stacked to the gills with it. I don’t know if it's because of old radio shows or the fact that I let them listen to old cartoons while they slept. But I know it sure helped as they navigated the ups and downs of life.
--Guess that's why I like listening to a good old romantic comedy while I sleep. Life‘s hard enough sometimes it just nice to go to sleep smiling....

TRYING TO FIND A REASON....
--I once had a conversation with a fella who was the most depressed person I’d ever known. This guy would take a good day and find a way to turn it into a nightmare just so he'd have something to be depressed about.
--I felt sorry for him and once asked him man, "Don't you ever just feel like cracking a smile?"
--He just looked at me and said, "I don't have a reason to smile."
--Well I didn't understand it at the time, and I guess I still don't. It just seam’s that allot of people miss the point somewhere. It’s not about having a reason, it’s about feeling better. Well I know it is for me. And for some dang fool reason a smile is the quickest way to accomplish that. It’s kind of hard to maintain a good old pot of anger stew if your grinning like a fool.
--When I’m up to my butt in muck and mire that's when you'll usually find me grinning like a fool. Because if there's one thing I need is to feel better at a time like that.
--Of course my wife say's it's because I’m addle minded. Any normal person would be shaking their fist at universe and cursing creation.
--But like everything else I find smiling works better at times like that. At lest for me. And of course when times are good I smile all the more. Because I figure what ever makes me feel better is a two for in my book. And that's a good thing....

PROMISE'S OF CHANGE....
--A cool breeze, under a humid blue sky filled day brings promise's of change gently this way.
--The sounds of morning traffic a reminder that something's never change. They still go speeding by ignoring the speed limit for another day.
--The clatter of a tractor plowing up the earth in a field next door, a reminder that another season is almost upon our door.
--The field of corn, and beans dance's merrily in the breeze. Growing strong and so tall for all to see. It won't be long they'll be gone but for now it sure is a sight to see.
--The green grass of home has already grown a bit. A gentle reminder to me. It’ll be time to mow again soon.
--All this and more on a morning to see....

HUMAN SMORES….
--While out and about the other day it dawned on me this must be how it feels to be a smores.
--It was so dang hot it was almost like trying to walk on a cracker that had been micro waved to long.
--Fighting through the heat was like trying to walk through hot sludge. And going in out of cool stores was slowly sapping what energy we had stored up from a restless night sleep.
--It made for a interesting ride. There wasn’t much conversation. Even though both my wife and I tried. But after awhile we realized it was just to dang hot. So we enjoyed each others company and when we reached home hit the ground running to quickly get inside….

--It made for a interesting ride. There wasn’t much conversation. Even though both my wife and I tried. But after awhile we realized it was just to dang hot. So we enjoyed each others company and when we reached home hit the ground running to quickly get inside….

NEW STORE’S AND RUNNING SALES….
--When it comes to new store’s we always like to go and check them out. Usually we find it’s just more of the same old same old where’s the penny ante saving’s and a 3 card Monty con job. By the time your get through all the flash you find you’ve probably saved a couple of nickels if your lucky.
--But like I said we usually go and check them out just in case, you never know maybe someday there will be one that tries honesty for a change. Instead of those mind bending games of chance.
--Of course usually after our little excursion we end up following the sales and trying to find the best deals. For some reason it seems to work best.
--But both my wife and I like a adventure so were constantly searching for that one store where we can shop and not have to worry about those dang fool con games….

YARD WONDERING....
--Watching two kittens discover the in's and out of the yard is kind of neat. Waffles of course is more than welcoming to the little balls of fluff. The rest of the dimblubs are not so accommodating I’m afraid.
--Why is beyond me but I guess it's a cat thing.
--For 2 tiny little things they've made themselves right to home. Following my wife and anybody else who happens across their path. A couple of times the mommy willow has had to come to their rescue when they ventured to far.
--But it's been neat watching them explore with eye's filled with wonder at every new discovery....

SUNRISE IN THE WOODS....
--When it comes to brains I’ve never been accused of having a full bucket. So it was with my idea to enjoy sunrise in the woods.
--Trudging through the woods can be fun, in the wake of day. But in the predawn hour's a tad tricky using a cane and lugging coffee. Luckily for me I’d all ready left a serenity chair where I planned to sit and wait for the sun.
--After a few missteps, and some dang fool branches I finally made it to my chair. Of course the bug's and other creepy crawly were only to happy to keep me company while waiting for the sun.
--But I will say one thing watching the sun slowly filter through the branches overhead. Was well worth it. There something about a sunrise no matter where you happen to be that just set's the heart a flutter. Of course the bug's made sure to remind it was best not to hang around. So I quickly got the Sam hill out of there before they reduced me by a few more pounds.....

MORNING MIST….
--As the sun crosses the yard a mist arises from the grass slowly making it’s way into the morning sky. Tiny dewdrops can be seen clinging to everything and sparkle in the morning light.
--Of course my sunrise watching buddies are more concerned with the grasshopper they’ve trapped between them. And of course I rescued the little fool. It just seems to dang early in the morning for shenanigans of any type.
--Watching the mist arise from the yard reminds me of trying to wake up while waiting for coffee. Which for some god forsaken reason is exactly what I’ve been trying to do.
--Apparently sunrise seems so much better with coffee. Perhaps someday I’ll reach the point where it won’t be necessary but it doesn’t seem today is that day. Shaking my head I grab my cane and head back to the house. On the way I dropped the grasshopper of at a nearby tree out of the reach of Taz and squash. Hopefully the little fool will have a better day. I know I probably will when I get a cup of coffee…

FOGGY MORNING SOLUTION'S....
--There comes a time when a fella realizes in order to stay on top of thing's he need's help. Depending on the need it's good to have a few tools readily available so you don't loose track.
--Normally I like to keep certain things close to hand. Like a small notebook with pen of course so I can write things down I don't want to forget. And a small group of hand tool's.
--Of course in a house filled with whack a doodles that is constantly changing, it's been hard over the years. Now of course I’ve fallen back on a old tool that proved useful when the children were younger the go bag.
--My wife of course doesn't say much about it because it seems to work. I’ve got about half a dozen of the little thing's for just about any thing that might happen during the day. And when we get ready to venture out they all fit into a little larger bag that comes with us. Because quite frankly you just never know what you might need….

EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE...
--Every once in awhile thing's happen that make you scratch your head in wonder. Or maybe it's just me I don't know but it seems lately I’ve been doing allot of head scratching.
--While out and about this morning I noticed a few thing's and as usual it started me to wondering. In the tree next to my blue berries where the dang fool crow usually hangs out when the berries are starting to ripening there was a fluttering of moment out of the corner of my. So I glanced over expecting that whack a doodle crow but instead there was a big old grey owl just sitting there starring.
--Well not wanting to seem unsocial able I lifted my coffee cup in a good morning howdy. Of course the fella didn't answer, probably would have had a heart attack if he did. He just looked at me and went back to starring..
--Taz ,Squash and Buddy were in the process of beating each other up and Hansel was in my lap waiting for the sun to rise. Which was probably just as well.
--Before to long I noticed and another moment out of the corner of my eye and the old possum came ambling along out of the tall grass with what looked like to small babies following behind. They came to the clearing next to the blue berries and started off again back into the tall grass heading for the hedge row.
--Well sitting there watching the sunrise I figured may it was time to move my serenity chair again. It seems a fella can't even find a little peace and quiet even in his backyard what with all the visitor’s and good morning greetings going on....

WAFFLES AND THE NEW BABIES....
--For some reason I’ve yet to figure out cats like waffles. Oh some of them like to torment him like Taz and Squash. But the rest like the little fool.
--Maybe it because he's almost their size. Or he's just a lovable old mother hen. Either way when someone's getting picked on when waffles is out they run to him for help. And when there's fighting he does his best to break it up. Even if it's in the form of barking at them to let them know they shouldn't be doing such thing's.
--When a new baby pop's up waffles has to get his share of sniff’s and licks in. Which is kind of fun to watch because baby kittens don't realize he's ok. So they hiss and spit up a storm. Of course it all boils over and the little fellas quickly realize waffles is alright.
--usually the mommy endures waffles through the whole ordeal. And he finally goes away happy....
FROM OUT OF THE PRICKER BUSH....
--While picking up the yard the other day my wife found 2 unexpected bundles of fluff. That's right baby kittens. When she can around the picker bush at the end of the porch she was grinning from ear to ear.
--Of course the kittens didn’t seem to impressed but they quickly came to the conclusion they weren't in harm so they settled down. My wife petted them for a bit and then started wondering who the mother was. Running down the list of dimblubs we both came up empty.
--So my wife found a cardboard box and slid it under the picker bush and took up watch. Waiting for the mommy to come to feed them I guess.
--I went about my business and forgot about the whole thing until my wife came busting in the house to announce who the mom was. Apparently it was a small black cat my daughter had named willow. And what was surprising was she was doing a good job of looking after the little fellas.
--I guess it just goes to show even dimblubs have their moment's....

JERRY LEE THE WONDERING FOOL….
--After being fooled more than once by the old fool I now take Jerry Lee out to do her business on a leash. Because quite frankly if I don’t the old fool will run off and come back when she feels like it. Oh she stay’s away from the road, but she has a habit of being gone for quite a while which worries everyone. So I usually get drafted to go and look for her. Only to find out when I come back empty handed that the old fool has returned to a hero’s welcome while I usually get a smirking couldn’t find her huh?
--So like I said I walk her on her leash, because quite frankly I’m to dang old to be trudging through the woods looking for that dang fool whack a doodle dog.
--Now my wife on the other hand opens the door and the old fool follows her right to her run without so much as a stray thought crossing her mind. Which my wife thinks is just great of course. It’s seems everybody just loves my wife and goes out of their way to make everything just easy peasy for her.
--If it wasn’t so funny it would probably give me a bad case of the grumps. But hey more power to her I figure. As for me I rather be safe than sorry that’s why I’ll keep doing that my way when it’s my turn at bat….
OF ALL THE DAY'S....
--Of all the day's you pick today to mow. Was pretty much what my wife said along with a few other choice words when I finally sat down for a break from mowing sweating like a fish. Because not only was it hot it was quite humid.
--I just smiled and said well a on cool day I’m to achy, and it seemed like a good idea at the time.
--She just shook her head and called me a old fool. Which is pretty much what I am I guess. But hey the dang fool grass needed cutting and after hobbling round for the last 3 day's it felt kind of nice doing something besides hobbling round with a dang fool cane. Of course I’ll probably pay for it latter. But just in the amount of mental recharge it was worth it.
--For some dang fool reason I’ve never been able to figure out a little physical activity does more good for the old mental batteries than sitting round wailing about my trouble's and woe’s. Of course there are those day's when pushing a dang fool vacuum is about the extent of what I’m able to do.
--But then comes the day's where I’m just sick and tired of wailing the blue's and just go for broke. It’s a pain because the battle between mind and body is both exhausting and unrelenting. But the secret I’ve found is if you can keep the mind distracted long enough it'll pretty much play along. Of course it'll get it's chance later to remind you of just how foolish you were. But hey like I said the mental recharge is well worth the late night hour's spent listening to the nagging of the old master of the realm.
--And actually even he takes a rest after awhile because the recharge is so great even he can't with stand it's light.....

CLOUDY AND HAZY MORNINGS….
--For some reason a cloudy and hazy morning is quite perplexing to the senses. Maybe it’s all the extra moisture in the air or the fact that the bugs and creepy crawlies seem to be having a field day and were unlucky interlopers.
--Taking the dogs out to do their duty is more like a contest to see how many cobwebs or creepy crawlies you’ll run into.
--Swinging a cane helps with the cobwebs. But the whack a doodle bugs are another story. Being pelted with the little fools in a real pain in the neck. Just this morning I felt like Gulliver trying to make it back to the house before being taken out by a onslaught of the little buggers.
--When I did make it back to the house I found 2 dragonflies stuck to my hat and a bumblebee buzzing in my coat pocket. I set the fools free on my return trip to rescue poor waffles who was having a mental breakdown with everything. Oh course taz didn’t help by knocking snails down on him from the maple tree….

SLOW STARTS....
--It doesn't seem like much but chilly nights, are a welcome relief to the humidly of certain days. The chilly mornings starts are also a gentle reminder of things to come.
--Going from one extreme to the other, produces all sorts of events unfortunately. Mostly in the subtleness of the changing of the guard. Gone are the nights of somewhat easy sleep and a return however brief to the endless nights of tossing and turning trying for that one area of comfort where sleep waits.
--The days are filled will with long looks at cloudy skies, counting the days when the white stuff flies. Trying to prepare physically as well as mentality.
--Almost without thought the winter gear is slowly gathered and kept in waiting. As the last days of summer come to a end and fall peeks round the corner. With a waiting howdy.
--If it wasn't so pretty it would be worth a curse or two. But even when the chill gets further along the changing of the seasons always brings a smile to my face. Maybe it's just me but their all a delight in their own misshapen ways. And in a weird way I’m kind of looking forward to the next one.....

STRANDED ON A TINY ISLAND....
--Usually I like to keep a open mind. Keep myself open to what ever might happen during the day. And not have my actions or reactions dictated by preconceived notions.
--Sometimes it's hard. Because it seam’s that if anything as I get older I’m finding myself pretty much stuck in the rut of I’m to dang old to change now. But like I said I do try.
--Fighting with myself isn’t anything new. Thanks to a unconventional upbringing I’ve been doing it my whole life it seam’s. And will be doing it from the looks of things allot longer.
--One thing I have found that I do enjoy is the freedom of being able to judge thing's as they come. That sense of freedom makes it a lot easier to leave the little tiny island of preconceived notions behind further and further each day.
--Oh it's been a battle for sure but the light at the end of the tunnel is life is change. And without change there can be no growth. I know it doesn't sound like much. But the memories of those night's of being trapped on that little tiny island are what give me the strength to go on.
--Each sunrise brings a new day to experience without the shackles of preconceived notion's....

THE OLD FALLEN TREES….
--Walking through the woods can be a tad tricky especially after a heavy storm has passed by. The trails are covered with broken limbs and a ever present presence of moisture that that sun hasn’t had a chance to help dry up.
--Depending on the severity of the storm there might even be a few old tree that have fallen down.
--Usually it’s with sadness that I view these wonder’s of nature lying about. That once stood so tall in their prime, but now have been brought down to begin the cycle all over again.
--Of course in their passing they’ve made room for all the little saplings to have their chance in the sun. So I guess it balances out in the end.
--But still being the old fool that I seem cursed to be I can’t help but say a prayer for them and thank them for their time in the sun. While stepping gently through the young one’s of course….
